In the post below, we have reviews of each dog bed so that you can learn even more. Many of the beds that we’ve selected come with free shipping and returns, so if it doesn’t work for you, you’re not out any money.
Why it made the list — The Casper Dog Bed has just about everything that you and your hound could ever want. For instance, it uses soft foams (including memory foam) and is bolstered around the edges to give your dog a “secure” feeling as they rest and sleep. Even more, Casper makes three models of their dog bed, allowing it to work for small and large dogs alike.
About the cover — One of the best features about this particular pet bed is that the cover is machine washable. You can take it off, throw it in the washing machine, and move on with your day. The only wrinkle is that it should be washed on cold and tumbled dry. If you have tough stains, you can spray the cover with a spot remover before putting it in the washing machine.
Different sizes offered — As we mentioned, Casper makes three different sizes. Below are more details on each size dog bed:
As you can see, Casper has a model for every type of dog, including extra large breeds. If you have a great dane or Bernese mountain dog you might want to look below because we have certain other dog beds for extra large dog breeds.
Casper, however, should be fine for labs, border collies, Siberian huskies, and pretty much all dogs up to 90 lbs.
Materials in the Casper Dog Bed — It has a two layer construction, a bit like some human budget-tier beds. The first layer is just a support layer made of dense polyurethane foam. The second layer (aka the comfort layer) is memory foam, allowing your hound to further nestle into their bed.
Why you should consider Purple — If you’ve ever heard of the Purple mattress, you know that the brand’s entire value proposition is that they think outside of the box. For instance, rather than using a memory foam as the primary comfort layer in their mattresses (and pet bed), they use something called Hyper-Elastic Polymer, which is a soft, yet firm material that your dog will most likely love. This material is known for being truly temperature neutral, meaning the bed will be more ideal for dogs that live in warmer climates, or that are constantly sitting on the floor to cool down.
Even more, Purple sells their pet bed in a small, medium, and large, so that they can accommodate all dog breeds. The Large model, for the record, is designed for dogs that weigh over 70 lbs. It’s actually a nice option for large dogs that weigh up to about 130 lbs. The exact dimensions for the Large pet bed are 50″ x 38″ x 5″ and it weighs 25 lbs.
Inside the dog bed — In addition to foam support layers and Hyper-Elastic Polymer, the Purple Pet Bed has a protector that is waterproof, antimicrobial, and odor-resistant. This is great news for dogs that drool a lot or chewers. None of that liquid is going to penetrate through the initial cover.
Even more, the dog bed has a super tough main cover that is also stain, odor, and moisture resistant.
Why it’s a great bed for large dogs — Well, for starters, it comes in a large size that is able to handle nearly all dog breeds, including german shepherds, larger labs, huskies, and even some great danes. There are a lot of dog beds out there that have bolstered edges. For the most part, these seem to be a positive, but if you have a larger dog you’ll want to make sure that he/she can really stretch out. Purple’s pet bed allows for plenty of stretching.
Even more, at 5″ thick, Purple’s dog bed is thicker than the average bed you’ll find at Amazon, Chewy, etc. The last thing you want to do is pay more for a premium dog bed and have your large dog bottom it out—that’s no good.
Why small dogs will love this bed — The Nest Bedding Dog Bed is made with small and medium dogs in mind. It’s bolstered along all sides, making it a perfect bed for dogs to nestle into. Even more, the fill is made with 100% recycled plastic that is breathable and non-absorbant. It’s just the perfect design and shape to make dogs feel secure, which is of particular importance for smaller dogs.
What this dog bed feels like — If you can imagine a big, fluffy pillow with raised edges, that’s pretty much exactly what this dog bed is like. You might see your dog turn in circles before settling into this bed. It makes the perfect little nook for a dog to feel secure in.
Will work anywhere — You can easily take this dog bed throughout the house and even on the go. Part of that is based on the fact that you have a small dog, but also because the Nest Bolstered Dog Bed is lightweight and malleable, meaning you won’t have to cart around some heavy, rigid bed with you on trips.
Great option for old dogs — There are several reasons why we like Runyon for older dogs and dogs with arthritis. For starters, it offers a supportive, yet comfortable sleeping surface. Even more, it has an orthopedic design with raised edges on three sides that your dog can use to cuddle up to or as a head or paw rest. Runyon also features a CertiPUR-US certified foams, a washable liner, and furniture-grade fabric. It’s just the perfect sleeping surface for dogs that need a nice bed of their own.
Sizes — While most dog beds come in one or three sizes, Runyon is available in four, including an extra large that’s 54″ x 35″ for large dogs. As such, whether you have a small or large dog, Runyon should work no problem.
Overall value of Runyon — Sure, it’s more expensive than the average pet store dog bed, but it’s also objectively higher quality and nicer. And that’s Brentwood Home’s entire brand: making high quality products and selling them for premium prices (but without the retail markup). This particular bed also comes with a three year warranty, which is about one to two years longer than what the typical brand offers.
A great memory foam dog bed — Brindle doesn’t offer many products, but their most popular dog bed is a winner, both in terms of value and comfort. It’s available in a small, medium, and large, each of which is comprised with 2″ of support foam and 2″ of memory foam. It’s a simple dog bed, but we can’t imagine your dog not liking it.
About the cover — Like many of the other dog beds on this list, Brindle comes with a machine-washable cover, regardless of which color you select. It also has a waterproof sub-cover that will help to keep the memory foam and poly foam stain and oder free. One interesting feature about the cover is the bottom—yes, the bottom. It has a non-slip pad that’s great for hardwood floors.
Pricing for this dog bed — Perhaps the biggest reason you might buy the Brundle dog bed is that it’s affordable. You can check the current price on Amazon, but last we checked the large dog bed was under $70. When you compare that to most of the beds on this list, Brindle is a steep discount and yet is quite nice.
