The Purple Blanket is the newest product from the company—and in true Purple fashion, it’s different from anything else out there. They describe it as “the snuggliest blanket science has to offer.” It was originally an add-on gift with the purchase of a Purple mattress, and is now available as a limited time offer, but we have a feeling it’s going to stick around.
Purple is a very popular and unique mattress company. They have four different mattress models, all of which feature their patented Hyper-Elastic Polymer material. It’s a gel-like material laid out in a grid format that provides unparalleled amounts of airflow and support for all sleeper types. You can read more about the material in our Purple 2, Purple 3, and Purple 4 reviews.
Upon purchasing this blanket, you can expect it to ship completely free, straight to your door. At the moment, this blanket is only available for sale through Purple’s site.
Right now, the blanket does not have any type of trial-period, and it is non-refundable. It does have a one year limited warranty, though, which you can read about on Purple’s website.
We’re just going to say it—we really like the Purple Blanket and find it very comfortable. It’s a dual-sided blanket, meaning that it has different fabrics on either side for different feels.
One side is a plush micro mink material. It’s a short fiber that’s super soft, and is made with stain-repellent technology so you don’t have to worry about spilling your drink on this side when you’re sipping on the couch.
The other side is a cooling fabric made of bamboo rayon. It feels silky. This side isn’t cool to the touch, but it does keep you cooler while wrapped around your body.
What’s also interesting about this blanket is its fill, which Purple calls “Advanced EiderTech Fill.” Purple describes it as a “continuous hollow fiber and ball-shaped structure to mimic eiderdown’s lofty warmth.” In case you didn’t know (we had to Google it, too), eiderdown is small, soft feathers from the breast of the female eider duck. Purple created this new fill so that their blanket could be hypoallergenic, eco-friendly, and durable. We find the Advanced EiderTech Fill to be smooth and have almost a bouncy feel to it.
Currently, the Purple Blanket is only available in a grey color. The dimensions of this blanket are 60” x 80”, which is on the smaller side. The Purple Blanket is perfect for using around the house, on the couch, or in the office. It’s not big enough to completely cover a queen size bed though.
It’s a tad heavier than you’d expect at 3.85 lb. But maybe we’re just wimpy. But in all seriousness, we didn’t mind the weight of this blanket..
As for price, it’s on the expensive side for its size at $99, but remember that you’re getting a warm side and a cooler side. It’s also constructed very well, and we’re not worried about it ever falling apart on us. Feel free to check current pricing and promotions on Purple.com.
As for cleaning, like we said, it’s already made with stain resistant material. Make sure you machine wash it in cold water with like colors, and then tumble dry on low. Don’t bleach it, and don’t iron it.
We’re already big fans of the rest of Purple’s products, and the same goes for their blanket. The fill has a very unique feel to it, and we love both the warm minky side and the smooth and cooling bamboo side.
This blanket would be great for bringing on planes or other travel, wearing around the office like we do, or using on the couch while drinking wine and watching the Bachelor. If it’s in your price range, go for it.
Let’s make things very clear and concise, and go over why exactly you’d want this blanket.
The Purple Blanket is a a great option for traveling because it’s on the smaller side, light, stain resistant, and has a warm side for when you’re cold and a cool side for when you’re warm (but still want to be snuggled up).
The Purple Blanket is nice to have around for klutzy people or kids because of it’s spill proof technology and because of how easy it is to launder. It’s also hypoallergenic and non-toxic thanks to its Advanced EiderTech Fill, so you don’t have to worry about any allergy issues. This also makes the blanket eco-friendly, which is always a nice bonus.
If you’re looking for a thick, heavy blanket, this just isn’t it. We also want you to realize that this is a high-quality blanket made with innovative technology. If that doesn’t excite you, then you might want to reconsider. Obviously, Target, Walmart, Amazon, etc. all sell blankets that cost much less than this one.
How did the Slumber Yard get this blanket?
Purple sent it to us to try out, same as the rest of the products we test from them. But with all products, we are in no way obligated to give good or bad opinions about their products. Everything we state comes straight from our own testing and thoughts.
What other products does Purple have to offer?
Purple has slowly and steadily been adding more products to their catalog. They launched the company with the Original Purple bed, and later came out with their New Purple Mattress collection with Purple.2, Purple.3, and Purple.4. For accessories, they have a Purple Pillow, a PowerBase adjustable bed frame, a platform base bed frame, sheets, a mattress protector, seven different seat and back cushions, and even a pet bed, which yes, does use their Hyper-Elastic Polymer.
Is the Purple Blanket Vegan?
I guess you could put it that way! Purple developed their Advanced EiderTech Fill to mimic the texture and feel of Eiderdown, which is feathers from Eider ducks. By creating a material that mimics it, Purple doesn’t have to harvest duck feathers or worry about allergens. It’s much more cruelty-free, eco-friendly, and accommodating.
