Policies When You Buy The T&N Topper
Tuft & Needle is a favorite budget brand of ours because of their inexpensive neutral-foam mattress. They have been expanding into other sleep accessories, including bedding, furniture, and the mattress topper that we’re reviewing in this post.
When ordering from Tuft & Needle’s website, you can expect free shipping straight to your doorstep. Your new mattress topper will show up in a pretty small box (about half the size of the one the mattress comes rolled up in), and it’s light enough that you should be able to bring it into your home and set it up yourself.
You’ll need to unroll in on top of your mattress, and then you’re done! It doesn’t need to settle or anything like that, and honestly, we didn’t even notice any chemically-smells from it’s packaging.
Anyway, from the day your topper is delivered, you’ll have a 100-night trial period in which returns are completely free. Which means, you can return your topper, no questions asked, and you don’t even have to pay for shipping. Just contact the company, and they’ll help you to donate it to a local charity. After you donate it, you can expect a full return within a couple of days.
This topper comes with a three-year limited warranty against any defective materials or workmanship.
Tuft & Needle Mattress Topper Details
The Tuft & Needle mattress topper is available in all popular sizes, meaning twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king. They don’t offer custom sizing right now, but considering these sizes are what most people have anyway, you’re probably covered.
This topper doesn’t have any form of attachment, such as straps or buttons. It does have a textured bottom of silicone beading, which helps to keep it in place, though. It even stayed put when we messed with it on an adjustable bed frame.
We really like the cover of this topper. It’s light grey, thick, and soft. It’s made of a polyester blend. Unfortunately, this topper isn’t machine washable. If you have any spills or accidents, just spot clean with some mild detergent and water like you would the Tuft & Needle mattress.
The meat of the topper is two inches of polyurethane foam, or neutral foam. This topper doesn’t have any special cooling technology, and we’d say it sleeps temperature neutral. Temperature neutral means that other factors, like the material of your pajamas or if you sleep with a fan or not, will play more of a key role in how cool or warm you sleep. And if your mattress currently has some cooling technology like springs for airflow or a cooling cover, this topper can stifle it. Also, keep in mind that this topper will add two extra inches to your mattress, so you may need to get deeper sheets, which aren’t too expensive on Amazon.
It’s One Big Piece Of Soft Foam
Like we said, this topper has the same neutral-foam feel that the Tuft & Needle mattress is famous for (along with its great price). It’s about medium-soft in firmness, but keep in mind that this can change depending on the firmness level of the mattress underneath it. If you have a soft or plush mattress like Layla, the topper will probably firm up your bed. If you have a firm mattress like Allswell, the topper will most likely soften it. But we think most of the time it will make your mattress feel softer and provide good pressure release. This topper also has good responsiveness, but no bounciness.
We think that Tuft & Needle was very smart in keeping their mattress topper neutral-foam feeling because the majority of mattress toppers we have seen and tested have had a memory foam or pillow top feel. In fact, this is the first neutral-foam feeling topper that we’ve tested. This makes this topper a great option if you got a super dense memory foam mattress like Tempur-Pedic or Zinus, only to realize you hate the feel of memory foam. Just get one of these toppers, instead of having to get a whole new mattress.
Any sleeper type will probably be fine with this topper, meaning back, stomach, or side, because it’s only two inches thick. Combo sleepers should be fine, as well, because this topper doesn’t have any of that stuck-in-the-mud feeling. Combo sleepers are those who tend to switch positions a lot through the night, and sometimes a memory foam feeling bed will give you too much resistance, which can affect your sleep. That’s not a concern with this topper.
Price Of The Topper
In true Tuft & Needle fashion, this topper is on the affordable side at only $150 for a queen size topper on their website. We’ve definitely seen some more expensive toppers, like TempurPedic’s Mattress Topper, and some cheaper ones, like the Lucid topper, but all those are memory foam mattress toppers. This is priced in the average range, and remember that getting a topper will always be a lot cheaper and easier than getting an entirely new bed (if you aren’t within your trial-period window, that is). Here is a pricing breakdown by bed size:
Again, not bad for a nice topper for a well-known brand.
Our Final Thoughts
We were pleasantly surprised by how nice and comfortable the Tuft & Needle mattress topper is. We like how it feels, we like the cover, and we love the price point. There are a couple of unknown brands selling neutral-foam toppers on Amazon, but no big brand names other than Tuft & Needle, which really sets them apart. If you’re looking for a way to change up your bed without getting a whole new mattress, this could be just what you’re looking for.
Tuft & Needle sent it to us to try out and review, but all opinions are our own, like always.
This topper definitely has the same neutral-foam feel as the Tuft & Needle mattress, but it has a softer firmness level, so they aren’t exactly the same. If you have a super firm mattress, it may firm up the feeling of the topper, but it still won’t be quite the same. You still might love the feel of this topper, though, because we wouldn’t say it’s better or worse than the whole Tuft & Needle mattress.
The foam in the topper has a density of 2.5 lbs per cubic foot.
Tons! They have two mattresses (plus the Nod by Tuft & Needle), all types of bedding, a pillow, and furniture. Feel free to head to their website and check it all out.
It’s fairly plush and should help to make your bed quite a bit softer.
Yes. The topper is CertiPUR-US certified.
It’s made with a neutral/soft foam that’s really comfortable and fluffy.
We expect that it will. All you do is place it on top of your current mattress. There are no straps or anything.
