Before we cover each mattress in detail, let’s first address the primary differences between Awara and Saatva so you have a baseline understanding of both beds before proceeding.
- Construction – Both beds are considered hybrids since they use coils for their support framework, however, the comfort layers of both mattresses differ significantly.
- Price – Awara is the more affordable mattress between the two after taking into consideration coupon codes and discounts.
- Firmness Options – The Saatva mattress is available in three different firmness options, while Awara comes in just one firmness profile.
- Feel – The Awara mattress has a supportive latex foam feel, while Saatva has more of a plush, pillow top feel to it.
- Sleeper Types – Both mattresses are excellent options for back and stomach sleepers, however, the Plush Soft version of the Saatva mattress is most ideal for side sleepers.
The points above are just a taste of what you need to know regarding these two beds. Keep reading to figure out which mattress best suits your sleep preferences.

Inside The Awara Mattress
The Awara mattress is comprised of natural and organic materials. Here’s a quick look at the main layers within the bed.
- 9″ individually wrapped coils – together, these coils combine to form the support structure for the mattress.
- 4″ natural Dunlop latex foam – sourced from real rubber trees, natural latex is used as the comfort layer for the bed.

We should also mention that the cover for the mattress is comprised of New Zealand wool and organic cotton. Bottom line, if you’re especially health-conscious and want a bed that is hypoallergenic and antimicrobial, Awara is a great option.
What The Awara Mattress Feels Like
Due to the fact that the bed utilizes a thick 4″ layer of Dunlop latex foam, the Awara mattress has a supportive latex foam feel (we know, big surprise).
For those of you who have never slept on a latex bed, we’ll give you a quick crash course. Latex foam, in general, is known for its responsive and supportive qualities. The material doesn’t conform to the shape of your body like a lot of other common foams. Instead, latex foam is more spongy and springy.

A lot of consumers prefer the supportive and responsive feel of latex foam, while others prefer the soft, conforming sensation of memory foam, for example. There’s no right or wrong answer. It really just depends on what you personally like more.
Firmness Rating & Sleeper Types
In our opinion, the Awara mattress lands on the firm end of the scale. It’s very similar to the Luxury Firm and Firm options that Saatva offers.

With its firmness profile in mind, we think the Awara mattress is best suited for back, stomach and combo sleepers. The bed provides a good amount of support under your lower back and trunk.

When it comes to side sleepers, we just don’t think the mattress is soft and pressure relieving enough for your hips and shoulders. These types of sleepers would most likely be better off opting for the Plush Soft Saatva model.
Awara Is More Affordable Than Saatva
For a lot of shoppers out there looking for a new bed, price is likely a top consideration. Although both of these beds aren’t touted as budget mattresses, we consider them to be solid values given their respective high-quality designs.
From an MSRP perspective, Awara and Saatva are very close to one another. You’re looking at about $1,300-$1,650 for a queen size. However, once you consider discounts and promo codes, Awara usually ends up being the more affordable option.
In most cases, you can expect to receive at least $200-$300 off the Awara mattress at checkout. Saatva doesn’t offer discounts as frequently, however, they will run special promotions around major holidays. Be sure to check the green discount box on your screen for sales and current pricing.

Durable & Supportive Design
The Saatva mattress has a high-quality, durable design. The bed incorporates several different layers that total 11.5″ thick. Here’s a quick summary of each layer starting from the bottom.
- Steel coil innerspring unit – gives the bed a sturdy, supportive base.
- Active wire/memory foam – transition layer that provides additional support in the center third of the bed.
- Individually wrapped coils – provides even more support near the surface of the mattress.
- Euro pillow top – the primary comfort layer for the mattress.

Saatva is one of the few beds we’ve tested that incorporates two separate layers of coils. This ensures sleepers receive the necessary support to keep their spine in proper alignment. It also means the Saatva mattress should be a durable bed over an extended period of time.
Lastly, we should mention that like Awara, the Saatva mattress has an organic cotton cover that is soft-to-the-touch and smells nice.
Overall Feel Of The Saatva Mattress
Although the Saatva mattress technically uses memory foam in its construction, the bed has more of a traditional pillow top feel thanks to its thick top layer.
In short, the bed doesn’t have a true memory foam feel, nor does it have a latex foam feel. Rather, it lands somewhere between the two. The pillow top doesn’t conform to your body like memory foam, but it’s also not quite as spongy or springy as latex foam.

Overall, our team here finds the mattress to be extremely comfortable. Bottom line, if you like feel of more traditional mattresses like you get in a fancy hotel, then Saatva is likely the right choice for you.
Multiple Firmness Options
One of the big perks you get by opting for Saatva is the ability to select your desired firmness. The mattress comes in three different profiles – Plush Soft, Luxury Firm and Firm. Here is where we think each bed lands along the firmness scale.

Keep in mind, firmness is a subjective topic. It really varies by person. For example, heavier folks tend to think most beds feel softer than average sized individuals. Likewise, lightweight folks tend to think most mattresses feel firmer than the average joe.
Accommodating For All Types Of Sleepers
To keep things short, we think the Saatva mattress is comfortable for all types of sleepers. That’s one of the benefits of selecting a mattress that comes in multiple firmness options. Essentially, every type of sleeper will be able to find a model that works for their particular sleep habits.

In our opinion, the Plush Soft Saatva model is a good option for side sleepers. It provides the softest sleeping surface for the hips and shoulders of side sleepers out of the four beds included in this comparison. The Luxury Firm Saatva model, like Awara, is best for back and stomach sleepers. Lastly, the Firm Saatva model is most ideal for people who either prefer extra firm beds or need additional lumbar support.
Verdict: Saatva vs Awara Mattress Review
We’ve arrived at the end of this comparison. Although the beds do share some similarities, hopefully we’ve done a decent job of explaining the differences. If you’re still undecided as to which bed is best for your situation, let’s quickly review the primary decision points.
Mattress Type – Both beds are similar in the fact they use coils for their support foundations, but besides that, the two beds largely use different materials. If you tend to favor latex mattresses, Awara is the obvious choice. If you’re indifferent or you prefer more traditional beds like you find luxury hotels, then Saatva is the more fitting choice.
Budget – Awara and Saatva are in the same ballpark as far as price; however, if you’re looking to save every dollar you can, then Awara is probably your best bet considering discounts and coupon codes.
Feel Preference – This comes down to what you like. We can’t answer for you. If you tend to favor the feel of latex foam, Awara is the easy answer. If you want more of traditional pillow top feel, then Saatva is the clear choice.
Options – If you want the opportunity to select a firmness level that matches up with your exact sleep habits, then Saatva is the best choice.
Dominant Sleeping Position – Both mattresses provide the necessary support for back and stomach sleepers so it’s hard to draw a line in that respect. If you spend the majority of the night on your side though, we recommend the Plush Soft Saatva model for maximum pressure relief.
