    Beautyrest vs. Sealy Mattress Overview

The Sealy Posturepedic and Beautyrest hybrid beds both have a lot to offer to sleepers. They have many characteristics in common since they both combine soft foam with supportive coils. But they also have some critical differences that might make you like one over another.

    • Price — If you’re on a budget, the Sealy is definitely a better choice for you. A queen bed will run for about $1,299. A Beautyrest of the same size will cost about $2,099.
    • Firmness — The Sealy is about a medium on the firmness scale, while the Beautyrest hybrid comes in two firmness levels: Plush and Luxury Firm.
    • Edge support — Beautyrest has a column of foam around the perimeter that gives it excellent edge support, while Sealy’s edge support leaves something to be desired.

    Design & Construction

The Sealy Posturepedic is a hybrid mattress made with both coils and memory foam. The bed is 12” high, with three distinct layers:

    • Base layer — At the bottom, you’ll find a foundation of support coils, most of which are located at the center of the mattress.
    • Transition layer — The center of the mattress is made of a soft foam that neutralizes the feeling of the coils.
    • Comfort layer — At the top of the bed, you’ll find a layer of pressure-relieving memory foam.

Beautyrest also offers a handful of hybrid beds. All of its hybrids have similar construction, but we’ll look at the Beautyrest Natasha since its the most popular model:

    • Proprietary coils — the Natasha construction starts with a layer of proprietary pocketed coils braided using three strands of steel to provide support and resiliency.
    • Dense foam — Around the perimeter of the bed, you’ll find a column of dense foam to provide edge support.
    • Responsive foam — Above the coils, you’ll find a ½” thick layer of latex, which acts as a transition layer.
    • Foam layers — Next up, you’ll find two foam layers. One is a 1” layer of proprietary foam, and the other is a 3” layer of AirCool gel memory foam, designed to be cooler than your standard memory foam.

    Feel & Firmness

The Sealy Posturepedic mattress has a soft memory foam feel to it. You sink into the bed just enough for a comfortable night’s sleep, but not so much that it’s overwhelming. And thanks to the coils at the base layer of the bed, you’ll still feel the support you need. As far as firmness, it falls at around a medium on the scale.

Like the Sealy bed, the Beautyrest offers a combination of support and comfort thanks to coils and foam. The Natasha model actually comes in two firmness levels: Plush and Firm. The Plush model is a medium-soft to medium on the firmness scale, while the Luxury Firm version is a medium-firm. Like the Sealy, the Beautyrest allows you to sink in a bit without feeling stuck.

    Other Factors to Consider

There are a few other factors to consider when shopping for your next mattress, especially if you share your bed with a partner.

    Edge Support

Beautyrest definitely has the advantage when it comes to edge support. Its column of dense foam around the perimeter of the bed is designed to create excellent edge support, and it definitely does its job. The Sealy edge support isn’t bad, but it doesn’t quite measure up.

    Motion Isolation

Both the Sealy and Beautyrest mattresses provide excellent motion isolation. If you’re sleeping with a partner, you’re unlikely to be disturbed if they move around during the night.

We’d rate both of these beds as neutral on the temperature scale. They don’t heat you up at night but don’t necessarily cool you down either. Beautyrest beds supposedly have some cooling technology, but we haven’t found that to be the case.

    Body Type Analysis

Your body type can play a huge role in what type of bed you’ll sleep most comfortably on.

    • Petite

Petite individuals should sleep comfortably on the standard Beautyrest hybrid models. The Natasha model comes in both a Plush and Firm version, both of which work well for petite people. On the other hand, the Sealy bed might feel too firm for smaller individuals who sleep on their side. However, it’s probably okay for back, stomach, or combo sleepers.

    • Normal

Average-sized sleepers should sleep comfortably on either bed and could opt for either the Plush or Firm version of the Beautyrest, depending on their sleeping position preference.

    • Heavy

Heavy individuals may sleep comfortably on either the Sealy or Beautyrest beds since they both have supportive hybrid constructions.

    Sleeper Type Analysis

In addition to your size, your sleep style also plays a role in which mattress you should choose.

    • Side Sleepers

Side sleepers should sleep comfortably on the Sealy Posturepedic. And while the Beautyrest is also suitable for side sleepers, they’re probably best-suited for the Plush rather than the Firm version.

    • Combo Sleepers

Combo sleepers will sleep comfortably on either the Sealy or the Beautyrest mattresses. They can opt for either the Plush or Firm version, depending on their preference.

    • Back & Stomach Sleepers

Both beds are well-suited to back and stomach sleepers since they’re firm enough to keep the spine in alignment by supporting the hips and shoulders. Back and stomach sleepers will probably prefer the Firm version of the Beautyrest bed over the Plush version.
