The Amerisleep catalog is quite large, and it consists of several different beds ranging from soft to firm. The softer the bed, the higher the price tag — that’s essentially how the Amerisleep beds work. The AS2 mattress leans more towards the firm end of the spectrum, and it’s one of the more affordable mattress models they offer. It’s also available in a hybrid construction for anyone who wants a firm profile with a supportive foundation layer, such as back pain sufferers or plus-size sleepers.

For a dense memory foam feel and a mattress cover unlike most we’ve seen at the Slumber Yard, continue on below to our Amerisleep AS2 mattress review.

Amerisleep AS2 Mattress Firmness and Feel

Although Amerisleep uses a special Bio-Pur memory foam in their beds, it reminds us of dense memory foam like TempurPedic or Nectar mattress. You don’t sink into the foam right away. Instead, it takes a few moments to warm up to your body. But once it does, you feel the top layers of Amerisleep give you a nice, temperature-neutral hug.

Firmness

As we alluded to above, the AS2 mattress is one of their fimer bed offerings. It’s not the hardest bed they sell, but it’s certainly not the plushest. We’d rate it around a medium-firm, as well as the hybrid model. Though, if you’re a heavier sleeper and opt for the hybrid, it might feel more like a medium.

Pressure Relief

The AS2 Amerisleep bed isn’t the most pressure-relieving option on the market. It’s not like it’s completely lacking because memory foam does do a good job at relieving pressure points. But it’s not going to be as good as the AS5, AS4, or even AS3 mattress models.

Temperature

This can get tricky to talk about because temperature is influenced by outside factors like your air conditioning and the pajamas you wear. With that being said, all of those factors aside, this bed sleeps temperature neutral. The open-cell foam design helps the bed be more breathable, and the hybrid option allows for even more airflow through the mattress.

Amerisleep AS2 Construction and Design

As far as thickness goes and layer design, the AS2 mattress looks very similar to AS3 and AS4. Like the other beds, it’s 12” thick and is made using three different layers.

Bottom

The base layer is made with their special Bio-Core foam that’s 7” thick. It will provide the bulk of the bed’s support. If you op for the AS2 Hybrid, this layer is made out of coils.

Middle

The transition layer in the AS2 mattress is 3” of polyfoam. It helps to neutralize the dense foam or pocketed coil layer below.

Top

The top comfort layer is the same as it is in every Amerisleep mattress, and that’s Bio-Pur memory foam. It still gives you that memory foam feel, but it has a more open-celled structure to allow air to pass through easier.

  • Cover

Now, on to our favorite part of the AS2 mattress (and the rest of them, for that matter). In the case of an accident or drink spill, the cover on these beds is removable. This makes cleaning the surface extremely easy, especially if you just need to give it a refreshing rinse.

Durability

The all-foam Amerisleep mattress is thicker than standard 10” foam beds, so it’s not horrible. But it doesn’t compare to the durability of a hybrid mattress like AS2 Hybrid.

Body Type Analysis

Your weight can play a role in how soft or firm a bed feels, as varying body weights distribute differently across a mattress.

  • Petite Individuals

For those weighing under 150 lbs or so, the Amerisleep AS2 is great for you. Though, it will feel more like a firm than a medium-firm, so you’re forewarned!

  • Average Individuals

For sleepers in between the 150-230 weight range, the AS2 mattress will be perfectly accommodating and feel around a medium-firm, as we said above.

  • Heavy Individuals

We don’t think the all-foam AS2 mattress is a good fit because it just won’t provide that long-lasting comfort and support that the AS2 Hybrid will provide. It isn’t that much more expensive, and you’ll get a better bang for your buck.

Sleeper Type Analysis

The sleeping position you favor most should help you determine the most accommodating firmness option.

  • Side Sleepers

Most side sleepers probably won’t love the AS2 hybrid mattress because of its firmer profile, especially petite side sleepers. The exception would be heavy side sleepers on the AS2 Hybrid. It’s supportive enough, and it would be around a medium on the scale because weight (partly) dictates how a bed feels.

  • Back And Stomach Sleepers

You are the AS2 mattress’ perfect sleeper. They call this bed their most popular option for back and stomach sleepers, and we see why. It’s supportive and comfy but not too firm to turn off some sleepers who still want a tiny bit of pressure relief.

  • Combination Sleepers

Most combination sleepers should be fine on this mattress unless you tend to favor your side. In that case, we’d probably recommend the AS3 or AS3 Hybrid.

Will Amerisleep Beds Work For Couples?

Yes, the Amerisleep AS2 mattresses will be perfectly suitable for people who share a bed with a partner or their animal.

Motion Isolation

The all-foam AS2 model takes the cake here, as you can barely notice movement or noise across the mattress if your partner gets up. It passed our water cup test beautifully.

Edge Support

If you share a queen or full size mattress, this is an important feature. We think the AS2 hybrid provides better edge support, but the all-foam model isn’t bad by any means. We wouldn’t call it a deal-breaker if you’re really dying to get the foam model.

AS2 Mattress Pricing

There’s bad news and good news. The bad news is that the MSRP price of AS2 is a little pricey. A queen size retails around $1,399. Luckily for money-savers, the AS2 mattress usually has some kind of promotion going. This typically takes the price down another $300 or more.

Amerisleep AS2 Mattress Review Verdict

After completing our review, we have to say we are fans of the Amerisleep 2 mattress, especially that removable and machine washable cover. It’s not the firmest mattress on the spectrum, so it offers a little pressure relief alongside a more supportive feel. If you love dense memory foam and sleep on your back, stomach, or a combination, you may think about giving this mattress a try.
