For those of you who may not be familiar with Amerisleep and their brand, they offer many different mattresses, all ranging from soft to firm. If you want a medium firmness mattress, they have that option. If you want something plush but not too soft, you’ve come to the right review. The AS4 Amerisleep mattress is dubbed their best option for side and combination sleepers who look for that soft, pressure-relieving feel. If that sounds right up your alley, continue on below to our Amerisleep AS4 mattress review and find out what our unbiased thoughts are on this mattress.
Amerisleep AS4 Mattress Firmness and Feel
The AS4 mattress by Amerisleep is three layers thick, and the top layer utilizes the brand’s special memory foam material. As a result, the bed feels like a dense memory mattress, reminiscent of the Nectar mattress or the luxurious TempurPedic. Though memory foam tends to make it hard to switch positions, we did not have that experience with this bed.
The Amerisleep AS4 mattress isn’t the softest bed they offer, but it’s very pleasantly plush. We rated it around a medium-soft on our own firmness scale.
- Pressure Relief
This mattress is great for pressure relief. The memory foam contours around your curves, and the soft profile makes it extra snuggly and conforming
Unlike traditional memory foam, we think the Bio-Pur foam in Amerisleep is more breathable and temperature neutral. It won’t help you sleep cold, but it does allow for increased airflow because of its open-celled construction. We’ve added the illustration below to give you an insight into all the air pockets inside the top layer.
Amerisleep AS4 Construction and Design
The AS4 Amerisleep mattress, as you read earlier, is made with three different layers. In total, it stands around 12” high.
The bottom foam layer is made with 7” of Amerisleep’s Bio-Core foam. It feels dense and firm because its purpose is to provide a bulk of the bed’s support.
In the center of AS4 is a thin layer of transition foam. It works to soften up the feel of the dense foam below.
The comfort layer of AS4 is Bio-Pur memory foam, and it’s the same on all of the Amerisleep beds. This is what gives the mattress its dense memory foam feel.
- Amerisleep Mattress Cover
One of the best perks about this bed, if you ask us, is its machine washable cover. Only a few beds, including Yogabed and Novosbed, have machine washable covers, and it makes it really easy to clean any stains or spills. Other people have to spot clean their mattresses if it gets dirty.
Since this mattress is only made from foam, it won’t be as durable as any of the hybrid beds offered by Amerisleep. Though, it is more durable than your standard 10” or 11” mattress because it’s more on the thick side.
Sleeper Type Analysis
You probably have a sleeping position that you like sleeping in the most. Below, we break down how accommodating this bed will be based on your most dominant sleeping position.
- Side SleepersGood For
- Back and Stomach SleepersNot So Good For
Unless you weigh under 230 lbs, back and stomach sleepers will probably need a bit more support. The bed’s softer profile probably won’t keep your spine in its ideal neutral alignment.
- Combination SleepersNot So Good For
If you switch between your back and stomach, this likely won’t be a great bed for you. But, if you sleep on your side often, this bed’s medium-soft profile will likely be suitable for most combination sleepers.
Body Type Analysis
Your weight and BMI can alter the way a mattress feels. As a rule of thumb, the more you weigh, the softer a mattress is going to feel.
- Petite Individuals
People who weigh under 150 lbs or so will be perfectly fine on the AS4 mattress. Its all-foam design should be durable enough in the long-term, but you might think it feels like a medium more than a medium-firm.
- Average Individuals
For people in between the weight of 150 to 230 lbs, this mattress will be accommodating and comfortable. All-foam beds are ideal for petite and average-weighted individuals.
- Heavy Individuals
If you weigh over 230 lbs and really want a soft Amerisleep mattress, we recommend the AS3 Hybrid. It will feel around a medium to medium-firm because of the additional pressure applied to the bed, but it’s much more durable and supportive than the all-foam AS4.
Will Amerisleep Beds Work For Couples?
For all the couples out there searching for the perfect mattress to share, you may want to take a bed’s motion isolation and edge support into account.
Motion Isolation and Noise
We placed a glass of water at the bottom of the mattress and rolled around to test how much the water moved. It didn’t spill or tip, and it barely shook. This mattress is great at absorbing motion, and you shouldn’t feel your partner in the middle of the night. It also won’t make any noise.
If you share a smaller mattress with your significant other, like a queen or full size bed, for example, we think you’ll be fine with the AS4 mattress. It’s not the greatest we’ve seen, but it’s also not the worst.
Amerisleep Pricing & Coupon Code
The softer the Amerisleep mattress, the more expensive it’s going to be. With that said, the AS4 Amerisleep mattress is one of the pricer beds offered by the brand. A queen size retails around $2,098. On the other hand, we’ve seen them run some generous discounts on this bed that bring down the price by $600 or more, making it a way better value.
Amerisleep Review Verdict
We don’t have anything negative to say about the Amerisleep AS4 mattress. If you’re a fan of dense memory foam and primarily sleep on your side, you’ll likely be a happy customer. It doesn’t make it hard to switch positions, it shouldn’t sleep warm, and it comes with an easy-to-clean machine washable cover. The only folks we don’t recommend it to are back sleepers, stomach sleepers, and people who weigh over 230 lbs.

The Review Team
AS4 is a dense memory foam mattress that has a medium-soft firmness level. It feels like a nice big hug.
The AS4 mattress is one of the more pricey options from Amerisleep. A queen size retails around $2,100.
We think it’s a good mattress for side sleepers, or people who want a plush, soft mattress. It’s also ideal for sleepers under 230 lbs, but plus-size individuals can opt for AS3 hybrid.
