Amerisleep Reviews Overview
Amerisleep is on a mission to make a range of bed models so any type of sleeper has an option to choose from. The brand offers five core mattress models, all of which differ in terms of price, construction, and firmness. The beds are named AS1, AS2, AS3, AS4, and AS5. As you progress from AS1 to AS5, the mattresses become thicker, softer, and more expensive.
You should also know that Amerisleep AS2, AS3 and AS5 beds are available in hybrid designs. In other words, with these three models, you can opt for pocketed coils instead of dense foundation foam for more support. You can see all of the different mattresses on Amerisleep’s website.

Unbiased Amerisleep Reviews Video
Below is a short video outlining what you need to know about all five Amerisleep mattresses.
The video above is just an overview of the beds. We’ve complied a full, detailed review below so you can learn more before making a final decision.
Construction And Design
Each Amerisleep mattress is slightly different, but there are major commonalities between each bed. To be specific, each mattress contains:
- Bio-Core Foam —This foam serves as the foundation layer for each mattress. Depending on which model you select, the layer will be either 7″ or 8″ thick. It’s worth noting that this layer is partially made from plants instead of petroleum, meaning it’s eco-friendly. If you opt for the AS2 Hybrid, AS3 Hybrid or AS5 Hybrid, these beds simply replace the Bio-Core Foam with a system of pocketed coils.
- Affinity Transition Poly Foam — A slightly softer foam meant to act as a transition or comfort layer, so you don’t feel the dense foundation layer underneath.
- Active Flex Layer — This layer is specific to the AS5, and is meant to provide additional cushion and plushness.
- Bio-Pur Memory Foam —This is a special memory foam that is used for the top layer on each Amerisleep mattress. It’s supposed to be slightly more responsive and breathable than traditional memory foam. Depending on which model you select, this layer will be between 2-4″ thick.
AS1 Mattress will only be 10″ thick. AS2, AS3, and AS4 are a bit thicker 12″. Finally, AS5 is 14″ thick and includes one additional layer of poly foam.
Amerisleep Mattress Cover
We’d like to point out that according to the company’s website, the removable cover is washable. This is quite rare in the bed-in-a-box space. Most mattress covers need to be cleaned by hand since they are not machine washable.
Amerisleep Mattress Firmness And Feel
Despite the differences between the beds, let’s just be clear, all five models are considered memory foam mattresses. All five mattresses use memory foam for their top layer, which unsurprisingly give the beds a memory foam feel.
In general, memory foam is known for its conforming behavior. In other words, as you lay down on memory foam, you nestle into it and the foam starts to contour to your body’s shape.
In Amerisleep’s case, we actually think the beds have what’s considered a dense memory foam feel, somewhat similar to the Nectar mattress. As you lay down on Amerisleep beds, they feel firm at first, but then after a few seconds you start to burrow into the top layer a little and you can feel the memory foam sort of wrapping your body. We also found it fairly easy to switch between positions on the Amerisleep beds. Sometimes with memory foam beds, sleepers will find it requires a little extra effort to switch positions. Luckily, that’s not the case here.
Again, the majority of folks out there seem to really like this sort of feel, but if you’re one of the few who don’t, be sure to check out our reviews of Leesa, Casper, and GhostBed. These are three popular bed-in-a-box mattresses that have more of a soft, neutral-foam feel.
Here’s a quick look at the responsive nature of the top memory foam layer.
Although all Amerisleep beds use memory foam, which is generally known for retaining heat, we don’t think you’ll sleep hot. Rather, we think you’ll sleep more temperature neutral. The Bio-Pur memory foam the company uses isn’t from the 1980s. It has an open-cell structure, which makes it much more breathable than traditional memory foam.
Remember that your sleeping temperature is often affected by factors that have nothing to do with the mattress itself. I’m talking about external factors like how liberal you are with your air conditioner, what climate you live in, and what kind of pajamas you wear to bed.
Will Amerisleep Beds Work For Couples?
Yes, the Amerisleep mattresses will work just fine for people who share a bed with a partner or pet.
First, the beds do a good job of limiting motion transfer. As you can see below, the water in the glass doesn’t move around all that much despite the activity on the surface of the mattress. This means you likely won’t feel too much of your partner’s movements throughout the night.
In addition, the beds also provide fairly decent edge support. We really didn’t notice any major issues in this department during our tests. This is an important subject for people who share a full or queen size mattress. Solid edge support means both partners will be able to use the entire surface area of the mattress and still feel properly supported.
Body Type Analysis
Given that all of the standard Amerisleep mattresses are comprised entirely of foam, we don’t think they are the best options for people who weigh more than 250 lb. That’s not necessarily a criticism of the beds, by the way. We say that about pretty much every all-foam mattress.
Typically, we recommend heavier folks purchase a mattress that contains coils or an innerspring unit. These types of mattresses simply last longer and provide more support for large folks. Durability and support are key for large individuals given they exert more pressure on a mattress than petite and average sized individuals. If you fall into this weight category, we’d highly recommend you select one of the Amerisleep Hybrid mattresses over one of their all-foam models.
Average To Petite Individuals
We think the all-foam Amerisleep mattresses are best for folks who weigh in between ~130 to ~230 lbs. Though, keep in mind, the more petite you are, the firmer a mattress is going to feel.
Amerisleep Pricing & Coupon Code
Amerisleep beds are priced near the middle-to-higher end of the online mattress space. The cheapest model in the lineup (AS1) has a queen size MSRP of around $1,200. From there, pricing continues to rise to about $2,100 for a queen size AS5. Keep in mind, if you’d like to upgrade to one their hybrid models, it will cost you an extra $200.
Speaking honestly, we think the pricing is a little high, however to be fair, the numbers mentioned above are based on MSRP. Amerisleep does seem to be fairly aggressive when it comes to discounts and coupon codes. In most cases, you can expect to receive a $200-$250 discount on your purchase. It might be a good idea to locate the green box on your screen to check current pricing and promotions.
Amerisleep Review Verdict
Overall, we like the Amerisleep beds. They’re well-made, comfortable mattresses, but at the end of the day we have to call a spade a spade. The bottom line is that these beds are a little pricey given their all-foam constructions. There are plenty of other nice memory foam beds on the market that are much more affordable. We recommend you take a look at our list of the Best Mattresses Under $1,000 and go from there.
However, if you’re not so concerned about price and you just want a high-quality memory foam bed, then Amerisleep is definitely a good option.
Overview Of Amerisleep Models
Amerisleep AS1 – The AS1 Mattress is the cheapest and firmest bed in the Amerisleep lineup. It is comprised of just two layers and totals 10″ thick. The base Bio-Core support layer is 8″ thick and the top memory foam layer is 2″ thick. The AS1 lands around a straight firm on the firmness scale and ranges from around $850 for a twin size to $1,400 for a king size.
Given the firmness profile of the bed, it’s going to best for strict back and stomach sleepers. The company likes to say this model is for people who like extra support.
Amerisleep AS2 – This is the company’s most popular mattress among back and stomach sleepers. The Amerisleep AS2 uses three separate foam layers and totals 12″ thick. From bottom to top, the bed is comprised of a 7″ Bio-Core base layer, 3″ poly foam transition layer and 2″ Bio-Pur memory foam layer. The Amerisleep AS2 ranges from around $1,000 to $1,600, and lands around a medium-firm on our firmness scale.
We recommend this Amerisleep mattress to people who spend the majority of the night on their back or stomach.
Amerisleep AS3 – The Amerisleep AS3 is the company’s flagship and best-selling mattress. It’s also the model that we spent the most time testing. It has a very similar construction to that of the AS2, except it uses 3″ of memory foam on top and a 2″ transition layer in between. It too comes in at 12″ thick.
Amerisleep AS3 ranges from around $1,100 (twin) to $1,700 (king). That extra 1″ of memory foam is why it’s slightly more expensive than the AS2, and AS3 is slightly softer than the AS2 due to the fact it uses an extra inch of memory foam. Overall, the AS3 comes in right around a medium on the firmness scale.
The company likes to say this is their most versatile mattress and that it evenly blends comfort and support. After testing the bed, we tend to agree. We feel like Amerisleep AS3 accommodates all types of sleepers. It doesn’t matter whether you primarily sleep on your side, back, stomach or a combination of the three.
Amerisleep AS4 – Continuing on down the line is the AS4, which is a great option for people who like their beds on the softer side of the spectrum. The AS4 totals 12″ thick and uses three separate foam layers. From bottom to top you’re looking at a 7″ base layer, 1″ transition layer and a 4″ layer of the special memory foam.
Given the bed uses even more memory foam than the AS3, you can probably guess which way its price tag points (we’ll give you a hint, it’s upwards). This bed will cost you between $1,400 (twin) to $1,900 (king). Overall, Amerisleep AS4 comes in right around a medium-soft on the firmness scale. As such, we think it’s best for side sleepers and petite to average-sized combo sleepers.
Amerisleep AS5 – Finally, we have the AS5, the company’s softest and most premium mattress.
Amerisleep AS5 is the only mattress in the lineup that is comprised of more than three layers. To be specific, the bed uses four foam layers and totals a whopping 14″ thick.
- For the bottom, the bed uses a 7″ layer of the Bio-Core support foam previously discussed.
- Next is a 2″ transition layer similar to the one on the AS3.
- On top of the transition foam is a 2″ layer of what the company call its “Active Flex Layer.” This is a responsive comfort foam that is only available on the AS5.
- Rounding out the mattress is a 3″ layer of the same memory foam found on the other four models.
Given the AS5 is the company’s most intricate mattress in terms of materials and construction, it’s also the most expensive. You’re looking at around $1,800 for a twin and $2,300 for a king. All in all, it comes in around a straight soft on the firmness scale and is best for strict side sleepers.
Amerisleep Hybrid Mattress Review
The AS2, AS3 and AS5 beds also come in hybrid models. For reference, these models are named AS2, AS3 and AS5. They’re essentially the same beds as their all-foam counterparts, except they contain pocketed coils for their primary support framework. Keep in mind, coils are more expensive than foam from a manufacturing standpoint so the upgrade is not free. It will cost you an extra $200 if you decide you want coils.
We should also mention that the coils in the Amerisleep Hybrid beds aren’t just any regular old coils. The mattresses actually use a proprietary zoned support coil system. In simple terms, this means the coils are split into three different zones. The zones under your shoulders and hips are slightly softer to provide more pressure relief, while the zone under your lower back is slightly firmer to provide more support.
Besides the zoned support coil system, let’s cover what else you need to know about the Amerisleep Hybrid beds. First, the coils give the hybrid models a little bounce. As a result, the AS2h, AS3h and AS5h will feel a little more responsive than the all-foam models.
Also, although the hybrid models still use memory foam, we actually think they have more of a neutral-foam feel to them overall. All this means is that you won’t feel the top layers mold to your body as much as the standard all-foam Amerisleep beds.
Next, the hybrid beds allow for more airflow so there’s a chance you might sleep slightly cooler on the hybrid models compared to the all-foam ones.
Lastly, and quite frankly most importantly, the Amerisleep Hybrid beds provide more support than the all-foam models. We cover this topic in more detail in the next section. Alternatively, you can always check out the Amerisleep Hybrid mattresses for yourself on the company’s website.

How Will My Amerisleep Mattress Arrive?
The Slumber Yard team purchased the Amerisleep mattress. We retain full editorial control over the reviews, comparisons and buyer guides we publish.
Amerisleep requires you place their mattresses on solid flat surfaces. Even if you have a newer box spring with no misshaped or broken coils, the company recommends you place a piece of 3/4″ plywood on top of the box spring for additional support.
The company recommends you sleep on your new mattress for at least 30 nights. This is typically how long it takes for your body to adjust to a new sleep surface.
Amerisleep beds are manufactured in the USA. The company even uses a special, eco-friendly VPF process for manufacturing their foams.
Amerisleep offers 5 different beds that range in firmness from ultra plush to ultra firm. They offer AS1, AS2, AS3, AS4, and AS5.
Our favorite is Amerisleep AS3. It is around a “medium” on firmness and is really comfortable.
All the Amerisleep mattresses have a responsive memory foam feel. They DO NOT feel like your standard memory foam that has a viscous/thick feel.
