Awara Mattress Review

If you like the feel of a bouncy, supportive mattress, and you’re looking for something more eco-friendly, you might consider the Awara Mattress. There are several notable benefits of a natural/organic latex bed like Awara. First, natural latex is one of the best mattress materials for folks with allergies because it’s antimicrobial, and this characteristic can help prevent dust mites and other allergens from collecting in your mattress. Latex is also a naturally cooler material than other foams, making it more appealing to some sleepers than memory foam or poly foam.

We think Awara is a comfortable mattress, well-suited for those who value natural and organic materials, but don’t want to pay an arm and a leg like some $2,000 organic latex foam beds in the market. In this online mattress review, we’ll review the in’s and out’s of this mattress and why we think it is or isn’t worth your money.

If you’re interested in certain aspects, you can use the links below to go to different sections of our Awara Mattress reviews:

    • Honest Awara Mattress Video Review

    Awara Construction And Design

A lot of mattresses are marketed on their specific materials, and this is especially true of beds that come from the eco-friendly corner of the industry. These companies make a concentrated effort to use sustainable and natural materials. Awara is a 13” mattress, which makes it thicker than average. The layers are:

awara mattress reviews construction and latex foam
    Simple, but highly durable construction.
    • 9” layer of zoned support coils
    • 4” layer of 100 percent organic, natural Dunlop latex
    • Organic cotton and natural wool cover.

The zoned support design is something we’ve been seeing more of in both all-foam and hybrid mattresses. We think it’s a smart design that is effective for a lot of sleepers.

    Mattress Cover

    awara mattress review cover
A closer look at Awara’s organic cotton cover.

There are certain perks that come with a natural and organic mattress. One you’ll notice most immediately is the smell of the organic cover. Natural mattresses, like Awara, tend to have far less of that new-mattress smell, and their organic covers can often have a nice, almost earthy scent to them. The same goes for Awara, and we think it compliments the environmentally-friendly aspect of the mattress perfectly.

    Awara Firmness And Feel

At a high level, Awara is a latex mattress with support coils underneath, and that’s fairly evident in its overall feel. We’d describe it as an innerspring-feeling bed with a layer of foam on top.

Although you do have a whole 4” of that latex foam, latex is a responsive, bouncy, almost spongy material, so it does play into that springy feel, while also adding some cushion.

    awara mattress review firmness rating

On our firmness scale, we rate Awara in the medium-firm range. This is pretty typical for latex beds, which usually tend to have firmer mattress profiles.

Is Awara A Good Mattress For Couples?

These are two features you may not have considered before if you share your bed with another individual.

    Edge Support

    awara mattress review edge support
Checking out the edge support on Awara.

Edge support is what keeps you from feeling like you’re about to roll right onto the floor when you and your partner try to spread out on your mattress. And during our Awara Mattress reviews, we discovered it has great edge support—no one’s going to be accidentally tumbling off the side in the middle of the night.

    Motion Isolation

Motion isolation is particularly important if you or your partner is a light sleeper. It’s what prevents you from waking up every time your snuggle buddy turns over or gets up for a midnight snack. Awara has good motion isolation. We won’t call it great, but seeing as it’s a bed filled with coils and responsive, spongy latex foam, we have no complaints with “good” motion isolation.

    Temperature Regulation

Latex is a naturally cooler material than other foams. This is in part because it’s an aerated material, so it allows for better airflow than the denser poly and memory foams. Between the coils and latex foam, Awara sleeps on the cooler side. We wouldn’t say it’s decidedly a cooling mattress, but it isn’t warm either.

Suitable Sleepers For The Awara Mattress

    • Back And Stomach Sleepers

The combination of Awara’s feel and firmness makes it a suitable bed for back and stomach sleepers and maybe for combo sleepers, but not the best option for strict side sleepers. Back and stomach sleepers need a mattress that provides good support for all their heavy spots to keep their spine properly aligned—Awara’s zoned coil system and responsive latex foam do that.

As a firmer bed, Awara will prevent sleepers’ hips and trunk from sinking too far into the surface of the mattress.

    • Combination Sleepers

Certain combo sleepers may be able to sleep comfortably on Awara, but that is dependent on a couple of factors. For one, said combination sleeper will need to spend most of the night on their back or stomach, rather than their side. For two, it would be best if they were also on the heavier side, which will allow them to experience the most possible pressure relief from the mattress. Whereas petite folks won’t sink in or feel that cushion from the top layer hardly at all.

Combo sleepers won’t have any trouble switching sleeping positions because Awara’s coils and responsive latex prevent any “stuck” feeling.

    • Side Sleepers

Strict side sleepers, unfortunately, probably won’t enjoy Awara enough to sleep on it every night for the next 10 years, give or take. The same things that make it a good bed for back and stomach sleepers make it too resilient for side sleepers.

In other words, a bed as firm and responsive as Awara is going to push against a side sleeper’s pressure points, rather than accommodate them. Check out our list of the Best Mattress For Side Sleepers And Pressure Relief.

ghostbed luxe mattress review sleeping positions

Body Type Analysis For The Awara Bed

    • Heavy Individuals

We think Awara is a great option for heavy folks. The coils, thickness and firmness make it a supportive and durable mattress. It’ll prevent heavy body types from making deep impressions and wearing down the mattress for a lot longer than your standard all-foam bed.

We usually define heavy body types to be 250+ lb, but the features we mentioned will also be nice for those on the heavier side of average, say 200+ lb.

For more mattresses that we think will work well for folks over 200 lb, check out our list of the Best Mattresses For Heavy People.

    • Average/Petite Individuals

We think Awara will be a good pick for anyone who’s average sized, and even some petite folks will like it. It’s a no-go for petite folks who sleep on their side even a little bit, though. It’s too firm for those types of sleepers.

But for everyone else, assuming you like the feel of the mattress and aren’t a strict side sleeper, Awara can stay on your list.

Awara Mattress Pricing And Coupon Code

One of the biggest considerations in buying a new mattress is the price. Here’s a pricing breakdown for the Awara mattress by size:

    SizePrice (MSRP)
    Twin$1,199
    Twin XL$1,299
    Full$1,399
    Queen$1,499
    King / Cal King$1,699

Is There An Awara Mattress Coupon Code?

Check the box on the right side of the page for current mattress deals and coupons. Typically, Awara offers something like $300 off, but that may change season to season.

Awara’s MSRP is higher than that of the average bed-in-a-box sold online, but in this case, you get what you pay for. Natural and organic materials, along with latex foam in general, is almost always going to drive up the price. With all that in mind, Awara is one of the more affordable eco-friendly beds on the market.

    How we rate mattresses

Overall, we’re fans of the Awara mattress. It’s well made and uses quality, sustainable materials that come with natural benefits. If you’re looking for a bed with some bounce, you’re primarily a back and/or stomach sleeper, and you’re willing to spend a little extra for natural and organic materials, Awara is certainly a contender.

    Awara vs

Here is how Awara stacks up against different organic mattresses you could choose from.

    • Awara vs Avocado

Avocado Green Mattress is probably the most well-known online organic mattress, and it has a similar construction to Awara in that they both use pocketed coils in the base layer and organic latex foam in the top comfort layer. Avocado offers an optional pillow top if you want to soften up the bed, but with the pillow top, it’s around the same medium-firmness as Awara. Avocado is also the more expensive option, after discounts and or with the pillow top. Though, it might be better for heavier back and stomach sleepers looking for additional support.

    • Awara vs My Green Mattress

My Green Mattress uses natural and organic materials, but the latex foam isn’t certified organic like the foam found inside Awara. This may not be a huge deal to a lot of people, but some people appreciate that extra step for sustainability and greener initiatives. Though, it also uses wool and organic cotton in the top comfort layers and is rated a medium-firm on our firmness scale. Price will usually come down to who’s offering the better discounts at the time.

    Frequently Asked Questions
How did we get the Awara mattress?
Awara sent us this mattress to test out. However, all opinions are our own and we have full control over our content. We aren’t obligated to say good or bad things about this mattress.
    Does Awara sell other products?
Yes, it does. You can check out their foundation and bed frame on the website.
Can you sleep on it if you have a latex allergy?
Most likely, you can. Latex allergies are rare, but even if you happen to be one of the unfortunate few with a sensitive allergy, there’s a good chance that you can still sleep on a latex foam bed. This is because the material’s manufacturing process usually includes a wash that removes the soluble proteins in latex that cause allergic reactions. Also, your skin won’t be in direct contact with the latex, as the latex foam layer is under the quilted cover.
Does the Awara mattress have any certifications?
Yes, the Awara mattress is made with GOLS-certified Latex and GOTS-certified organic cotton. Awara is also a ClimatePartner-certified company, which means 10 trees are planted for every mattress sold.
Does it come with free shipping?
Yes, shipping in the US is free.
Can I test before I buy?
You won’t find Awara in any stores, but you can test it for 365 nights at your home, and if you’re not happy with it, you should be able to return it for a full refund.
    How firm is Awara?
Awara is a fairly firm mattress. It’s around a medium-firm, perhaps a little firmer.
What is the Awara mattress made of?
Awara has pocket coils for support and latex foam for comfort—that’s it!
Where do I try an Awara mattress?
You won’t find Awara in any stores, but you can test it for 365 nights at your home, and if you’re not happy with it, you should be able to return it for a full refund.
