Brooklyn Bedding Mattress Overview

Brooklyn Bedding is a well-established brand within the online mattress space; they even have their own manufacturing facility where they make their own products and cut out the middleman. As such, they have a wide range of quality, reasonably priced mattresses to choose from. The Signature mattress from Brooklyn Bedding is a cut above most online mattresses but at a similar price point. In other words, this is a borderline luxury mattress, but it is priced to compete with a lot of mattresses under $1,000.

In this review, we’ll focus on Brooklyn Bedding Signature, its major features and highlights, and who we think will or won’t love it. To jump straight to any part of this review you want, use our links below:

    Honest Video Review

We like to pair our written reviews with helpful YouTube video reviews just in case you’re in more of a listening mood, so check out what JD has to say about Brooklyn Bedding Signature.

    Brooklyn Signature Mattress Construction

The Signature Mattress by Brooklyn Bedding has a durable hybrid construction and stands at 11″ tall. Here is a breakdown of the layers inside this sucker:

    brooklyn bedding signature mattress layers
A look inside the Brooklyn Signature mattress
    • The mattress starts with a 1″ layer of dense support foam on the bottom, which simply acts as the base for the bed and gives the coils above something to sit on.
    • On top of the support foam is a layer of 6″ individually pocketed coils, giving the bed a strong support structure.
    • Sitting on top of the coils is a 2″ layer of Energex foam, which acts as a transition from the supportive coils below. This layer differs slightly, depending on the firmness level you choose.
    • Finally, on top is a 2″ layer of what Brooklyn calls TitanFlex Comfort foam. This is a patented hyper-elastic proprietary foam that is soft yet responsive.

    Mattress Cover

Encasing the layers of foam and coils is a quilted, non-removable foam cover with stretch knit cotton fabric. As mentioned, this is a non-removable cover, meaning you’ll have to spot clean the mattress with some water and a mild detergent if it gets dirty.

This bed looks premium. You can tell Brooklyn Bedding takes pride in its manufacturing processes.

Brooklyn Bedding Mattress Firmness And Feel

Brooklyn Bedding Signature has a soft, neutral foam feel. It’s extremely comfortable, and the top layer is responsive (you don’t get any of that stuck-in-the-mud feeling). What’s also nice is that the pocketed coils give the bed a little bounce, which a lot of sleepers like. Given the coils and how responsive the top layer is, most sleepers will find it easy to switch sleeping positions.

The fitness will depend on the type you select. We tested the medium option, which is Brooklyn’s flagship model, and we thought it landed around a medium-soft to medium on our firmness scale.

brooklyn bedding mattress review softness firmness deal coupon

If you opt for the soft version, it will indeed be soft, while the firm model is about a medium-firm. The medium option is the most popular firmness level of the three.

    Sleeper Type Analysis

We think the Brooklyn Signature is great for all kinds of sleepers and body types.

    Side Sleepers

The Soft or Medium option for Brooklyn Signature is a great firmness for side sleepers. We rated them on the softer end of the firmness spectrum, making them pressure relieving enough to perfectly accommodate those who favor their side.

brooklyn bedding mattress review signature side sleepers
Great mattress for strict side sleepers.

If you’re a medium- or large-sized side sleeper, we’d recommend sticking with this medium firmness option. If you’re petite or on the smaller end of the average category, you may want to think about going with the soft option for added pressure relief.

    Back And Stomach Sleepers

For back and stomach sleepers, we’d recommend sticking with the medium or firm option. Although all three options have coils, which obviously provide great support, the medium and firm options will be best because they have a firmer, denser transition foam layer. If you’re 250 lb. or more, you’ll probably want to go with the firm option to keep the sinkage under your hips and trunk minimal.

    Combo Sleepers

We’d recommend most combo sleepers go with a medium option. This model provides the best balance between pressure relief and support as you switch between your side, back and stomach.

    Body Type Analysis

    Petite To Average Individuals

We think small and average individuals will sleep great on this bed, but it’s not as important for those under ~230 lbs to purchase a hybrid mattress. Though, if you want a durable mattress that’ll last longer than an all-foam bed, this one from Brooklyn Bedding isn’t going to be overkill like other hybrid beds with extra heavyweight constructions.

    Heavy Individuals

This hybrid mattress provides the support larger people need. In general, heavier folks will likely want to seek out beds with coils, as they’re known for providing bi-directional support (i.e., the coils compress but also provide some push back). Coils are also more durable than foam and give the bed a little bounce, which will help people switch sleeping positions a little easier.

However, we would recommend large size people probably stick with the firm model. Heavy people will most likely sink down through the top foam layers a little too much on the soft or medium firmness options.

    Important Factors For Couples

If you share a mattress with a significant other or family member, there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind that single individuals don’t necessarily have to worry about.

    Edge Support

Let’s start with edge support, which is important for partners who share a bed because oftentimes one partner will roll over to the middle of the bed, leaving the other partner on the edge. It’s these types of situations where you need the perimeter of the bed to still properly support you.

brooklyn bedding signature mattress review hybrid bed
The firmer model will have the best edge support

Overall, the Brooklyn Signature mattress gets a passing grade in this department. As you would expect, the edge support gets better as you increase the firmness level. In other words, the firm model will provide the best edge support out of the three beds. Still, we think couples who prefer to spread out while sleeping will be fine on the edges regardless of the model they choose.

    Motion Isolation

As for motion isolation, the Signature mattress is surprisingly efficient for a coil mattress. A lot of this has to do with the fact that the Signature uses pocketed coils, as opposed to a traditional innerspring system. Effectively, this means the coils act independently from one another, which helps to isolate motion.

This is important for people who share a bed with an active sleeper. The better a mattress is at deadening or isolating motion, the less you’ll feel your partner’s movements, which will hopefully lead to a more restful night of sleep.

    Sleeping Temperature

As far as temperature regulation, we’d say this mattress sleeps temperature neutral. This mattress won’t actively keep you cool, but it also won’t warm up to the point where you’ll be sweating.

brooklyn bedding signature temperature hot sleepers

However, there are a couple exceptions. If you’re a heavier person with the soft or medium option, you’ll sink into the mattress more and thus will warm up a little. Therefore, if you’re a big person and you tend to heat up at night, we’d recommend going with the firm version. Big folks will sleep more on top of the firm version and thus have a better chance at staying cool throughout the night.

Price Of The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Mattress

The Brooklyn Signature mattress pricing is close to other popular bed-in-a-box brands like Leesa and Casper. However, given the high-quality construction of the bed and the fact that it’s a hybrid (includes pocketed coils), we think the Signature model is a great value overall. Here’s how the pricing for each size breaks down:

    SizePrice (MSRP)
    Twin$599
    Twin XL$649
    Full$799
    Queen$949
    King / Cal King$1,149

Is There A Brooklyn Bedding Mattress Coupon Code?

Yes, Brooklyn Bedding is fairly aggressive with promotions. You can almost always find a coupon code or a sale. Typically, you can expect to save around $100-$200 on your purchase. Sometimes the company offers even larger discounts around certain holidays. Check the green coupon box on the right hand side of the page or BrooklynBedding.com for current offers.

    How we rate mattresses

Overall, we are big fans of the Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress. It made several of our best lists for a reason. It’s a thick, durable mattress that has a neutral, soft foam feel that the majority of people seem to really find comfortable. Because you can choose your firmness level and it’s ideal for all body types, you can understand why we rate this mattress so highly.

    Other Brooklyn Bedding Models

Because Brooklyn Bedding owns its own manufacturing facility, it can make any number of mattress models. We focused on the Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress throughout this review, but here’s a quick overview of the company’s many other beds:

    • Brooklyn Bedding Aurora: Perhaps the coolest bed available today, the Aurora is luxurious and has several cooling elements.
    • Brooklyn Bedding Bloom: This is the company’s natural/organic bed.
    • Brooklyn Bedding Bowery Hybrid: The coil version of the Bowery is a little more expensive but more supportive.
    • Brooklyn Bedding Spartan: This mattress is designed for athletes and active people.

Brooklyn makes several other models that are available on separate websites. If you’d like to see all of our Brooklyn Bedding reviews, click here.

    Brooklyn Bedding Company Policies

One factor that often gets neglected when shopping for a mattress online is the brand’s policies.

    • Free shipping and returns

    • 10-year warranty

If, after the mandatory 30 days, you decide the Signature is not for you, call the company and arrange for someone to come pick it up from your house and issue you a full refund. The whole return process shouldn’t take more than 8-14 days.

    Brooklyn Bedding Vs

You may be curious about how the Brooklyn Signature compares to other popular bed-in-a-box mattresses. Here’s a quick snippet of how it stacks up to the competition. For more detail, visit our in-depth mattress comparisons page.

    Brooklyn Bedding vs Nectar

While the Brooklyn Signature mattress is considered a hybrid, the popular Nectar bed-in-a-box is made entirely of foam, which gives the bed more of a memory foam feel compared to the Brooklyn Signature. Also, it’s worth noting that the Nectar mattress is more affordable than the Brooklyn Signature bed. All in all, if you’re looking for a budget-friendly memory foam bed, then you may want to check out Nectar.

    Brooklyn Bedding vs Layla

The Layla mattress is different from the Brooklyn Signature mattress in that it has more of a memory foam feel than a neutral-foam feel. The Layla mattress is also double-sided, meaning you can sleep on either side of the bed. One side is soft (designed for side sleepers) and one side is slightly firmer (designed for back and stomach sleepers). All things considered, the Layla mattress is a great option for memory foam fans who want multiple firmness options.
