Loom & Leaf Construction And Design

The Loom & Leaf mattress is entirely foam. In total, the mattress comes in around 11-12″ thick:

  • Base layer — The mattress uses a 5.5″ layer of dense polyfoam. This layer serves as the foundation for the bed.
  • Transition layer — Next is a 2″ transition loft pad. As the name implies, this foam layer serves as a transition from the support foam below.
  • Visco-elastic memory foam — This layer gives the bed deep pressure relief and contouring support.
  • Comfort layer — Finally, for the top layer, the bed uses a 2″ layer of four-pound gel-swirl memory foam. This acts as the comfort layer for the mattress and gives the bed a soft, comfortable feel. It includes a special gel panel designed to help with temperature regulation. Most people won’t notice it, but we think it plays a major role in keeping the bed at a cooler temperature throughout the night.
  • Mattress cover — Wrapping the mattress is an organic cotton cover that is quilted with an additional 5/8″ of soft foam for added comfort. Overall, the cover is soft, comfortable and premium-looking. The cover also happens to smell great—almost like you’re walking through a field. The cover is non-removable. If it gets dirty, spot-clean it with mild detergent and water.

Loom & Leaf Firmness And Feel

Given the bed uses two layers of dense, premium memory foam, you can probably guess what type of feel to expect. The Loom & Leaf mattress has a softer, dense memory foam feel.

As you lay down on the bed, you slowly sink in a little, and the top layers of memory foam start to conform to your body’s shape. Overall, we think this bed is comfortable, but you have to love the feel of memory foam.

If you’re not a big fan of memory foam, you may want to check out our reviews of Casper, GhostBed and Leesa, all of which have more of a soft, neutral-foam feel. They are thinner and less luxurious than Loom & Leaf, but they are wildly popular.

As you would expect with such soft, dense memory foam top layers, the Loom & Leaf mattress is not all that responsive. It takes the top layers a couple of seconds to pop back to position after pressure is released. As such, you will experience a bit of resistance when you go to roll between sleeping positions.

Loom & Leaf Models: Relaxed Firm And Firm

In terms of firmness, it’s going to depend on which model you select. We think the relaxed firm version lands around a medium-firm on the firmness scale, while the firm version lands closer to a proper firm.

All things considered, both options find a nice balance between comfort and support.

Is Loom And Leaf A Good Mattress For Couples?

As long as you’re fine with everything you’ve already read about, these next few items are less important. Edge support and motion isolation primarily apply to couples with one partner who is active in their sleep.

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation refers to how well the bed absorbs movement. Loom & Leaf deadens movement well. The mattress passed our tests easily. Little cross-mattress motion was transferred from one side of the bed to the other.

A bed like Loom & Leaf that deadens movement well will generally mean you’ll feel less of your partner’s movements, which can lead to a more restful night of sleep.

Edge Support

In terms of edge support, Loom & Leaf performs well, but it’s not the best bed we’ve ever tested. As you roll over towards the side, you’ll notice a little bit of compression, and you won’t feel as supported as you do in the middle. Still, we don’t think edge support will be an issue for most sleepers.

Improved edge support on the Loom & Leaf mattress

Edge support is an important topic for couples who share a smaller size mattress. The better edge support a bed provides, the more both partners will be to spread out and be comfortable while still feeling supported.

Temperature Regulation

In reality, external factors play a big role when it comes to temperature regulation. For example, factors like what climate you live in, how much you use your air conditioner and what type of sheets you use all affect how warm or cool you sleep throughout the night.

With that said, we do think the Loom & Leaf mattress will sleep on the cooler side of the spectrum, especially compared to other memory foam beds. We say that primarily because the bed uses a cooling gel spinal panel that is laminated onto the top layer. In fact, we picked the Loom & Leaf Mattress in our Best Cooling Mattresses list.

A peek inside the Loom & Leaf mattress

This type of cooling gel is commonly found in hospital burn units to help treat fire victims. Further, Loom & Leaf placed this panel in the center third of the bed, where heat is commonly retained. All in all, we think Loom & Leaf is one of the few memory foam beds out there that hot sleepers can get away with.

Loom & Leaf Mattress Sleeper Type Analyxis

In almost every mattress review, mattress comparison and best list we publish, we try to discuss this subject because your weight plays a role in how you perceive a mattress to feel. The same mattress can feel different to different-sized individuals. We base our mattress reviews on the average-sized body, but we still consider all body types and sleeping styles. Here is how the Loom and Leaf mattress works for sleeping positions and body types.

  • Side Sleepers

We recommend primary side sleepers who are of average size go with the relaxed firm version. This model provides a decent amount of pressure relief for folks who spend a lot of time on their side. The top layers do a good job of cradling your hips and shoulders. It won’t offer as much pressure relief as a lot of pure side sleeper mattresses, but it will soften over time, and we think it will work for a lot of people.

  • Stomach And Back Sleepers

Stomach and back sleepers will like the Loom & Leaf mattress. We recommend petite and average-sized sleepers go with the relaxed firm version, which provides more than enough support for smaller body types. If you’re a large individual and you primarily sleep on your back or stomach, we recommend going with the firm version for maximum support.

You’ll sink into the top layers a little but never to the point where your hips fall out of proper alignment. The bed does a good job of properly supporting your lower back and trunk, making one of, if not the, best memory foam mattresses for back pain.

  • Combination Sleepers

Petite and medium-size individuals should go with the relaxed firm version. Heavier individuals will want to choose based on their dominant sleeping positions. For example, if you favor your side, try out the relaxed firm version.

Memory foam beds, in general, are not bouncy and responsive beds. As such, you’re not going to be rolling around freely on Loom & Leaf unless you’re under 150 lb.

Petite Sleepers

Depending on your sleep position, you might find Loom and Leaf mattress to be a little too firm.

Petite side sleepers will find that this bed doesn’t provide enough pressure relief and think the bed is too firm. Instead, petite side sleepers should take a peek at our best list on the top plush beds. Otherwise, go with the relaxed firm version.

Heavy Sleepers

In general, larger body types (250+ lb) will feel like most mattresses are soft, whereas small body types (150 lb or less) will feel like most mattresses are firm. Big folks may find the firm version feels more like a medium on the firmness scale. If you primarily sleep on your side, the luxury firm is a nice option.

On the one hand, we’d say this bed will work for heavier bodies because it is thicker and more durable than most bed-in-a-box mattresses. However, we typically recommend heavy folks go with a spring or hybrid mattress. Generally speaking, coils are more supportive and durable than the dense poly foams that all-foam beds use for their main support structures. Still, if you’re dead set on an all-foam bed, Loom & Leaf is one of the best options.

Loom & Leaf Price

Loom & Leaf beds are priced above average for the online mattress industry. However, this isn’t your typical two or three-layer poly foam bed-in-a-box. This is a premium bed made of high-quality foams and manufactured in the USA by a well-respected company. As such, we think Loom & Leaf beds are a decent value.

Here’s how pricing breaks down by size:

SizePrice (MSRP)
Twin$1,195
Twin XL$1,575
Full$2,295
Queen$2,395
King / Cal King$2,745

Is There A Loom & Leaf Mattress Coupon Code?

Unfortunately, Loom & Leaf doesn’t offer evergreen coupon codes or promo codes. However, it’s still good to keep an eye on current pricing on the company’s website. Other Beds From Saatva

If you like the Saatva brand, you may be interested in our in-depth comparison of Loom and Leaf vs Saatva vs Zenhaven. Here are the highlights.

  • Loom & Leef vs Saatva

The Saatva mattress incorporates dual layers of coils and has more of a traditional innerspring type feel. The Saatva mattress is a great choice for heavy folks or people who want a pillow top feel to their bed.

Saatva is an innerspring mattress that comes in three firmness options (plush soft, luxury firm and firm). It’s more affordable than Loom & Leaf but is a more responsive, bouncy bed. The plush soft model is the best mattress that Saatva makes for side sleepers.

  • Zenhaven

The Zenhaven mattress is a double-sided latex mattress. This mattress is a great option for folks who like the feel of latex foam. It also happens to have the natural/organic bent to it because the latex foam is natural, and the cover is made with organic cotton fibers.

This is a 10″ fully latex mattress. One side is about a medium-firm and the other is closer to a proper firm. Either way, Zenhaven is a nice solution for back and stomach sleepers who want a luxury—but also eco-friendly—mattress. Zenhaven made our list of the Best Natural & Organic Mattresses.

Saatva offers buy-friendly policies so that you can be confident you got good value for your money and won’t be stuck with The industry standard for online beds is free shipping (usually in a box), a 100-night trial period, free returns and a 10-year warranty. Loom & Leaf goes above and beyond most of the standard policies:

  • Trial period — Loom & Leaf offers you a 365-day home trial period. Most brands offer 100 nights to 180 nights, so we like how long you have to decide if this mattress is right for you.

From there, provide proof (pickup receipt) that the mattress has been removed from your home, and the company will issue you a refund. Loom & Leaf vs Other Beds

Saatva Loom and Leaf reviews might not cover everything you need to know, so here are mini reviews against popular competitors.

  • Loom & Leaf vs Awara

Both Awara and Loom & Leaf are luxury beds, but it depends on what kind of luxury you’re looking for. Awara is a hybrid eco-friendly mattress, so it’s a great choice if you’re looking for those things instead of a memory foam option. Awara is a little more affordable and lands at a medium-firm on our firmness scale.

  • Loom & Leaf vs Puffy

You might want to pick between Loom & Leaf vs Puffy because Puffy is a classic foam bed while Loom & Leaf is a more luxury version. Puffy is incredibly accomodating and is about a medium. Puffy is a lot more affordable and offers a soft, neutral foam feel in comparison to Loom & Leaf’s dense memory foam feel.
