Nest Alexander Hybrid Review Overview

The Nest Alexander Hybrid is widely regarded as one of the best mattresses that you can buy online. It’s made in Phoenix, Arizona and will ship directly to you from that factory. In the video below we discuss everything you need to know about this bed.

This is an in-depth, lengthy review of the Nest Alexander Hybrid mattress. So, in an attempt to make it easy to navigate, below is a list of jump links to take you to any section of this piece.

Nest Alexander Hybrid Price And Coupon Code

The Nest Alexander Signature Hybrid is priced just above average for the online mattress industry. Considering the high-quality construction of the bed, we think it’s a really nice value. In fact, it was on our Best Mattresses For The Money list. Here’s how pricing breaks down by size.

SizePrice (MSRP)
Twin$949
Twin XL$1,099
Full$1,299
Queen$1,499
King / Cal King$1,699
Split King / Cal King$2,198

We have some more good news for you. Nest Bedding is very aggressive when it comes to coupon codes and promo codes to make their products even more affordable. They’re almost always running some sort of promotion. Check the box on the right to see what kind of discount you can snag. Typically, after discount, the queen size bed drops down to about $1,300. Again, we consider that an absolute steal.

Alexander Hybrid Construction

The Nest Alexander Signature Hybrid mattress uses a combination of coils and proprietary foams. All in all, the bed comes in at just over 13″ thick. The construction of the Nest Alexander Hybrid mattress does differ slightly depending on which firmness profile you select. However, below is a quick overview of the composition of the Medium firmness model, which is the most popular option among consumers. Check out the layers:

nest alexander hybrid mattress layers
A look at the layers within the Nest Alexander Hybrid mattress
  • A 1″ layer of dense 3lb support foam
  • An 8″ Quantum Edge pocketed coils that sit above the thin foam layer, and give the mattress a durable, strong support foundation
  • A 1″ layer of SmartFlow support foam, which serves as a transition from the firm coils below
  • A 3″ layer of TitanChill Endurance Foam, which is what most people would consider the true comfort layer for the bed.
  • A 1/4″ quilted topper that contains gel-infused memory foam, which adds an extra element of comfort not found with the average bed-in-a-box

Nest Signature Hybrid Cover

The Signature Hybrid has a non-removable, soft quilted cover that uses a thermic phase change cooling fabric. The cover is very comfortable and gives the mattress a premium look.

Most covers on online mattresses are removable, but there are very few that are actually machine washable. As such, it’s really not a big deal that the cover on the Nest Hybrid is non-removable.

The cover on the Nest Hybrid gives the bed a premium look and feel.

If you happen to spill something, you’ll just have to spot clean the cover with a mild detergent and some water. If you’re really concerned about keeping the cover clean, you could always look into one of Nest’s Mattress Protectors. Alternatively, you could also check out popular mattress protectors on Amazon. Keep in mind that protectors generally hinder airflow a little.

Nest Bedding Alexander Hybrid Feel

Due to the memory foam topper, the Nest Alexander Hybrid has a slight memory foam feel, but it’s not overwhelming at all. In actuality, it’s more of a soft, pillow top feel. A couple of The Slumber Yard team members like to say it’s like laying on a mountain of soft, comfy pillows.

It seems like almost everyone that tries this bed absolutely loves it. People who generally like the feel of memory foam dig it and folks who like more of a neutral-foam feel enjoy it, as well. It’s really one of the few mattresses out there that satisfies most material preferences (unless you like latex).

More good news—the bed is actually quite responsive. You wouldn’t think so given the memory foam topper, but the mattress actually snaps back to position almost immediately after pressure is released (the coils help here giving the bed some bounce). This means active sleepers who tend to move around a lot will find it quite easy to switch between positions.

Alexander Hybrid Firmness

In terms of firmness, it’s going to depend on which option you select. We think the Medium option sort of straddles medium-soft and medium. The Plush option is obviously a little softer, while the Luxury Firm option lands around a medium-firm on the firmness scale.

All in all, it’s nice that Nest offers various firmness levels. This means every type of sleeper will be able to find a mattress that best suits their particular sleeping habits. Speaking of different sleeper types, let’s go ahead and address that topic next.

Sleeper Type Analysis

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers really can’t go wrong with either the Plush or Medium options. Both of these models provide ample pressure relief for your hips and shoulders when you’re on your side.

The Plush and Medium models are most ideal for strict side sleepers.

In fact, the Nest Signature Hybrid even made our list for the Best Mattresses For Side Sleepers. We’d recommend petite side sleepers go with the Plush option and average and heavy side sleepers go with the Medium option.

Back And Stomach Sleepers

We’d only recommend the Luxury Firm option for strict back and stomach sleepers. These type of sleepers need a good amount of support and the Luxury Firm model will provide just that.

The Luxury Firm option is best for people who primarily sleep on their back.

Don’t let the word “firm” scare you away, though. The Luxury Firm option is still extremely comfortable. Back and stomach sleepers will just sleep more on top of this model to ensure your spine is always in proper alignment.

Combination Sleepers

We’d recommend combination sleepers go with either the Medium or Luxury Firm options, depending on your weight. If you’re a lighter person, the Medium option is preferable. If you’re a big dog, the Luxury Firm option would be better.

Regardless of your weight, combo sleepers will find the Nest Signature Hybrid very accommodating in all positions. Not only is the bed very comfortable, but it also finds a nice balance between support and pressure relief.

Body Type Analysis

Petite/Average Sleepers

People with a medium or petite build will find the Nest Hybrid extremely comfortable. We’d say if you’re a petite or medium sized person, go with either the Plush or Medium options. If you’re a primary back sleeper, though, you may also think about going with the Luxury Firm option for a little more support.

Alternatively, small sleepers may also want to check out the Nest Alexander Signature Series mattress. This Nest Bedding model doesn’t contain coils, but it’s still a thick, supportive mattress.

Heavy Sleepers

We generally steer heavy folks towards thick beds that contain coils and the Nest Hybrid definitely fits the bill. We like hybrid and innerspring beds for big folks because coils give the mattress a lot of bi-directional support.

This means the coils not only compress, but also push back up against pressure. All-foam beds just don’t provide the same type of support. A coil mattress construction is just better suited to handle the weight heavy people exert on their mattress.

The Luxury Firm option is best for big dogs, like Slumber Yard team member Owen.

With that said, we’d recommend big sleepers go with the Luxury Firm model. Folks that weigh over 250 lb might find themselves sinking a bit too far down into the Plush and Medium options.

Does The Nest Signature Hybrid Mattress Sleep Cool?

We wouldn’t go as far as saying this bed sleeps cool. Although the company likes to play up the cooling fibers in the cover, we think this mattress sleeps temperature neutral.

However, if you’re a big person and you choose the Medium or Plush option, you may find yourself warming up during the night since you’ll sink into the mattress a bit more and the top layers will sort of hug you. Learn more about temperature regulation.

A Good Option For Couples?

We would consider this one of the best mattresses for couples, especially since Nest made some updates to it. In early 2019, Nest made the cover removable and added split firmness options. That’s not to be confused with a split king or split California king where you end up with two different mattresses; the new system allows Nest to offer two different firmness options inside the same mattress (i.e. Plush/Medium or Medium/Luxury Firm). We actually prefer it this way so that you’re not simply pushing two twin XL mattresses together.

Edge Support

The bed provides pretty solid edge support. As you roll over towards the side, there’s really not much compression at all and you never feel as if you’re going to slide right off the mattress.

Pretty solid edge support on the Nest Alexander Hybrid

This is an important topic for partners who share a smaller size mattress and prefer not to cuddle. A bed with good edge support means there is more useful surface area for partners to spread out and get comfortable.

Motion Isolation

The Alexander Hybrid does a decent job of deadening movement. It’s not the best mattress we’ve ever tested in terms of motion isolation, but it’s certainly not the worst either.

Generally, all-foam beds do a better job in this regard because they don’t get the bounce from the coils, but the Nest Hybrid still does a good enough job, so it’s not an issue.

Nest Mattress Reviews: Verdict

Overall, we really like the Nest Alexander Signature Hybrid. It’s universally loved by all of our team members. In fact, Slumber Yard team member Owen liked it so much, he requested we bring it to his house so him and his girlfriend could sleep on it every night. All in all, it’s just a premium, very comfortable mattress that sports a reasonable price tag.

Other Nest Bedding Mattresses

Nest Bedding offers several other mattresses in addition to the Signature Hybrid. Here’s a short video that outlines all the different mattresses Nest Bedding offers.

If you’re on a budget, the Nest Love & Sleep mattress is a great option. This is an all-foam bed that has a soft, neutral-foam feel. If you’re into latex foam, the company offers two different models to choose from. There’s a Nest Latex Hybrid option and an All-Foam Latex option. Lastly, the company offers the Nest Alexander Signature Series mattress, which is similar to the Signature Hybrid except it’s made entirely of foam. Having said all of that, the Alexander Hybrid is their flagship mattress, and it is the most popular in their current lineup.

Comparing Nest Bedding vs Purple

The Nest Alexander is a bit more competitive in price compared to Purple Mattress, but not by much. Both mattresses are quality styles for a variety of sleeper types, as Purple has a medium firmness level while Nest Bedding Alexander Hybrid offers three different options.

Purple’s unique Hyper-Elastic Polymer layer is comfortable, but the gel-like material may take some getting used to. The Nest Alexander Hybrid features a pillow top and a traditional, luxurious feel which may appeal to more people.

Comparing Nest Bedding Hybrid vs Nest Alexander Signature

Nest Alexander Signature is an all-foam flippable mattress that offers two different firmness levels; one on each side of the mattress. Obviously, this is a completely different design than the Nest Bedding Hybrid mattress, which comes with a coil construction. As such, we think the hybrid model is best for all body types including heavy individuals over 230 lbs. Price wise, they are very similar, but the Signature model is a tad more expensive.

  • Trial period: Nest Bedding offers you a 100-night risk-free trial period. Just give customer service a call and they’ll take care of everything. You can either exchange the mattress for another Nest Bedding model or get a refund.

FAQs

How firm is Nest Alexander?

You can find Nest Alexander in 3 firmness levels: Plush, Medium, and Firm. The most popular model is the “Luxury Firm” which is around a 4-5/10, so it’s slightly on the softer end.

Is this a good mattress for side sleepers?

We think side sleepers will love Nest Alexander, especially the “Medium” model.

Do I need a special foundation for the Nest Alexander Hybrid?

The Nest Hybrid mattress should work with most existing adjustable bases, slatted frame, box springs, and foundations. Just make sure your existing frame can support the weight of your new mattress.

Does Nest Bedding ship to Alaska and Hawaii?

Yes, but they charge an additional fee. They also ship internationally through a third party vendor. This, unfortunately, is the case with most of the beds we’ve reviewed—free shipping excluding Hawaii and Alaska.
