Saatva Latex Hybrid Review

If you’re familiar with the luxury Saatva brand, you might know about their ultra-comfortable dual coil hybrid mattress, which has made its way onto many of our best lists, including the Best Luxury Mattress. Since releasing their flagship model, the brand has added a premium organic and natural latex mattress in its product catalog. What’s the benefit of a natural latex mattress? Not only is it hypoallergenic and antimicrobial, but it’s also free of harsh chemicals or toxins found in other popular mattresses. In this review, we discuss all there is to know about the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress, including price, construction, ideal sleeper types, and more!

    • Honest Saatva Video Review

Before we get into the post, here’s a video summary of the mattress and a somewhat condensed version of what you’ll be reading here today.

Saatva Latex Hybrid Construction And Design

The Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress is comprised of 5 different layers made up of natural and organic materials that total 13” thick. Below is a quick summary of each layer, so you have a better idea of how the bed is constructed.

Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress Construction Review
The 5 layers that make up Saatva Latex Hybrid
    • Organic Eco Loft Pad – serves as the mattress base and a foundation for the coils to sit on.
    • Individually Wrapped Coils – form the true support structure for the bed.
    • Talalay Latex – provides a responsive, supportive foam feel.
    • Organic Wool – acts as a soft, comfortable layer near the surface of the mattress.
    • Organic Cotton Cover – forms the gentle, hypoallergenic surface of the bed.

We should note that the cover on this Saatva mattress is not removable. All this means is that you’ll have to spot clean the cover if it happens to get somehow dirty. This is the case with most mattresses, so it’s really not a big deal. There are only a handful of beds online that feature removable, machine washable covers.

Made With Natural And Organic Materials

Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress Review Organic Cotton
A close up of the bed’s luxurious organic cotton cover

One of the main selling points of this Saatva mattress is that it’s made of 100% natural and organic materials. This is very important for eco-conscious consumers who want to ensure they’re sleeping on a healthy, safe bed.

Below is a quick rundown of the different organic materials that the bed utilizes, as well as various certifications the mattress holds.

    Natural & Organic Materials:

    • Sustainably harvested natural Talalay latex
    • Coils made from recycled steel
    • Organic New Zealand wool
    • Organic cotton protected with a botanical antimicrobial treatment

    Certifications:

    • Organic wool is GOTS certified
    • Organic cotton is GOTS certified
    • Talalay latex is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified

Saatva Latex Hybrid Review Feel And Firmness

As you might expect, the Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress has a latex foam feel. If you’re new to this type of feeling, latex foam has a very responsive, supportive, almost spongy type of feel. A lot of consumers prefer the feel of latex over memory foam. It really just depends on your personal preference.

With that said, the wool and cotton combination sitting on top of the Talalay latex layer balances out the latex feel somewhat. The overall result is a comfortable, responsive foam feel.

As far as firmness, we think the bed lands somewhere between medium to medium-firm on our scale. It’s not the plushest mattress you’ll ever lay on, but it’s also not overly firm either. The mattress finds a sweet spot between comfort and support.

Other Considerations For Saatva Latex Hybrid

We also need to address edge support and motion isolation. These subjects are especially pertinent to couples or individuals who share their bed with a large pet.

    Edge Support

    Saatva latex hybrid review
The Saatva Latex Hybrid properly supports all body types

With couples, the surface area is limited, so it’s important the edges of the mattress hold up well against pressure. That way, both individuals (or your pet) can spread out and have their own sleeping space without feeling like they might roll off the side of the mattress. We’re happy to report the latex Saatva mattress provides excellent edge support. We don’t foresee couples experiencing any issues in this department.

    Motion Isolation

This term refers to how proficient the mattress is at stopping motion from transferring from one person to another. In other words, if one person rolls over or gets up to use the bathroom, will the other person immediately feel the gyration and wake up?

The Saatva Latex Hybrid performs well in this category, but it’s not the best we have ever seen. This shouldn’t come as a shock, though, considering the bed uses coils (i.e., bounce) and latex foam (known for its responsiveness). Still, we don’t envision couples having a serious issue in this department. The bed gets a passing grade.

    Ideal Sleeper Types

Saatva latex hybrid review back sleeper
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is an excellent choice for back sleepers

In our opinion, the Saatva Latex Hybrid is a good choice for all types of sleepers. With that said, it does fit certain sleeper types more than others.

    • Side Sleepers

When it comes to side sleeping, we think the Saatva Latex Hybrid is a viable option. The organic wool and cotton combine to form a comfortable, fluffy surface for the hips and shoulders of side sleepers. However, we wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s the best bed out there for dominant side sleepers. Unlike back and stomach sleepers, side sleepers typically prefer softer mattresses.

    • Back And Stomach Sleepers

We do think Saatva Latex Hybrid skews a little more towards back and stomach sleepers in particular. Generally speaking, folks who spend a lot of time on their back or stomach tend to prefer slightly firmer beds, and the Saatva Latex Hybrid definitely falls into that category.

    • Combination Sleepers

Lastly, if you’re the type of sleeper who frequently rotates between your side, back and stomach (otherwise known as a combination sleeper), we think the Saatva Latex Hybrid is an excellent choice. The bed is comfortable for all types of sleepers and the responsive nature of the latex and coils make it very easy to switch between positions.

    Body Type Analysis

Given the Saatva Latex Hybrid utilizes coils for its support foundation, we believe the bed is suitable for people of all shapes and sizes. Keep in mind, although the bed can properly support individuals of all sizes that doesn’t mean the bed will feel the same to everyone.

    • Petite To Average Individuals

Smaller individuals will likely feel the Saatva Latex Hybrid is firmer than heavy sleepers think. This is because lightweight folks exert less force on the mattress’s surface, thus, lay more on top of the bed. As such, it’s perfectly suitable for these sleeper types but keep in mind that petite sleepers may find it more on the firm side.

    • Heavy Individuals

Heavyset folks, on the other hand, apply more pressure and thus sink further into the comfort layers of the bed. With that in mind, heavy folks may find this mattress around a medium or medium-soft. However, its pocketed coil construction is ideal for heavy sleepers because it provides more support than an all-foam foundation.

Saatva Latex Hybrid Pricing & Discounts

Saatva is known for producing high-quality mattresses at reasonable price points. Although the Saatva Latex Hybrid is priced slightly higher than some of its competitors such as Avocado, Awara and Birch, we still view the bed as a decent value given its first-rate design and materials. Here is a look at the MSRP breakdown by size.

    SizePrice (MSRP)
    Twin$1,100
    Twin XL$1,250
    Full$1,600
    Queen$1,800
    King/Cal King$2,200
    Split King$2,500

Keep in mind, Saatva does offer special promotions from time to time. For example, around major holidays, we routinely see them discount their beds by $100-$200. As such, it’s fair to say you’ll likely end up paying closer to $1,600 for a queen size come checkout. Be sure to check the green discount box on your screen for current pricing and discounts.

Verdict: Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattress Review

All in all, there’s a lot to like about the Saatva Latex Hybrid. It’s well-built, supportive and comfortable in all sleeping positions. Really, the only negative aspect we can point to is that the bed is slightly more expensive than similar latex hybrid mattresses on the market (albeit not by much). Bottom line, as long as you’re okay with spending a couple of hundred dollars extra, we think most consumers will be quite happy with the Saatva Latex Hybrid.

    Overview Of Saatva Customer Policies

Saatva is similar to other online mattress companies in the fact they ship beds directly to your door, but they go about it in a slightly different fashion. Below is a quick overview of their delivery process and company policies.

    • Free White Glove Delivery – Instead of compressing their mattresses to fit inside a box, Saatva offers free white glove delivery. For those of you who have never purchased a bed via this method, it essentially means a delivery crew will arrive at your house and personally set up the mattress in your bedroom, as opposed to you lifting a heavy box, setting up the mattress and discarding the packaging.
    • Free Mattress Removal – In addition to white glove delivery, Saatva also offers free mattress removal. The delivery crew in charge of setting up your new mattress will also haul away and dispose of your old mattress at no extra charge. This is great for people who don’t own a truck or don’t want to deal with the hassle of hauling your old bed to the dump.
    • 180 Night Trial Period – Once your new Saatva mattress is set up, the company allows you to test it for 180 nights before deciding whether or not to keep it. If for some reason, you don’t like your new mattress, you can return it for a refund. Simply contact Saatva customer support, and they’ll take care of the return process. Please keep in mind, Saatva does charge a $99 return fee if you end up going down this route.
    • 15 Year Warranty – The Saatva Latex Hybrid comes backed by a 15-year warranty. This is 5 years longer than the industry average. We always recommend reading up on the warranty before you purchase any mattress online. You can see the full Saatva warranty on the company’s website.

    Saatva Latex Hybrid Vs

Here’s how the natural and organic latex mattress from Saatva stacks up against other similar beds on the market.

    • Saatva Latex Hybrid vs Avocado

Compared to Saatva Latex Hybrid, Avocado is made with three layers instead of four and doesn’t incorporate the wool padding that Saatva does. As a result, Avocado is a much firmer mattress and is rated around a firm on our scale. Or, you can purchase the optional pillow-top with Avocado to achieve the same firmness as Saatva Latex Hybrid. Price-wise, Avocado is a more affordable mattress, which is to be expected because Saatva is a luxury bedding brand.

    • Saatva Latex Hybrid vs My Green Mattress

The Natural Escape from My Green Mattress is more of a wallet-friendly natural and organic mattress. It’s made with three layers as opposed to the four layers inside Saatva Latex Hybrid, and it also has a similar firmness level (medium-firm). The main difference between these beds is the price. Beds made with natural latex tend to be pretty pricey, but you can get a queen size Natural Escape for around $1,200 after discounts.
