TempurPedic Tempur-ProAdapt Mattress Review Overview
TempurPedic is arguably one of the most popular mattress brands in the world. It became a household name after their advertisement featuring a woman jumping on a bed with a wine glass went viral (before the word viral was even a thing). That said, Tempur-Pedic mattresses have changed a lot since then.
These are the basics we think you need to know about the TEMPUR-ProAdapt Hybrid mattress:
- The TEMPUR-ProAdapt Hybrid from Tempur-Pedic is a medium-firm hybrid mattress and best for back, stomach, and combination sleepers.
- It has the TEMPUR comfort layer that’s signature to Tempur-Pedic mattresses. This unique layer is made from the same pressure-relieving stuff that NASA developed for their astronauts.
- Includes a removable, dual-layer polyester cover.
- Available in a hybrid or all-foam model to suit any body type.
Here’s our unbiased Tempur-Pedic mattress review; we hope it gives you the confidence to decide whether you should or shouldn’t buy this memory foam mattress.
Mattress Design And Construction
The TEMPUR-ProAdapt Hybrid mattress is made with the same thing that the astronauts use. More specifically, the pressure-relieving materials developed by NASA. So you’re definitely going to notice the memory foam in this mattress. Here’s what it’s made out of:
- SmartClimate® Dual Cover System –– Zip-off cover includes an antimicrobial treatment and cool touch. The best part is, it’s machine washable. Tempur-Pedic generally recommends a cold water cycle and then air-drying. If you machine-dry, make sure you do it on a cool cycle.
- Top layer –– TEMPUR-ES® Comfort Layer has a soft feel.
- Middle layer –– TEMPUR-APR™ Support Layer relieves pressures.
- Hybrid Coil Base –– Premium spring coils that are responsive and bouncy.
The TEMPUR-ProAdapt bed is a 12” thick mattress. It’s available in all-foam and hybrid options. The design of both options is similar; the hybrid has a support base layer made from pocketed coils that are encased in high-density foam.
Mattress Pricing
We know Tempur-Pedic is one of the most popular brands out there, but these mattresses are a huge investment. They are some of the most expensive beds on the market. So if you’re on a budget, they aren’t always the most reasonable choice.

Mattress Firmness And Feel
How do we rate the firmness?
The ProAdapt has three firmness options: Soft, Medium, and Firm. This means you can choose the best firmness level according to your sleeping position. Though, the softest option will probably feel like a medium to most sleepers under 230 lbs. The TEMPUR-ProAdapt Hybrid mattress is exclusively available in a Medium which we labeled as medium-firm. It’s made with the proprietary TEMPUR comfort layer, which provides advanced adaptability and personalized comfort.
Pressure Relief
The memory foam of the TEMPUR-ProAdapt Hybrid mattress makes it a good option for pressure relief. The contouring layers of memory foam shape to your body and support you in all the spots that matter –– the shoulders, the hips, back and knees. However, you need to make sure you buy the correct firmness level for your body weight and sleep style to get the pressure relief you need. What does it feel like?
When you lay down on the TEMPUR-ProAdapt Hybrid mattress, you can tell it’s a high-quality bed. It has the typical dense/viscous feel that Tempur-Pedic is known for. The proprietary memory foam compresses, and the foam conforms to the shape of your body. Because it’s a hybrid, you’ll still get that memory foam experience without sinking down into the mattress.
Responsiveness
The support core of high-density polyfoam and layer of pocketed coils give this bed a more responsive feel than traditional memory foam options. That said, it isn’t as responsive as a traditional innerspring mattress; it is still memory foam, after all.

Mattress Performance
Temperature regulation
Even though the SmartClimate® Dual Cover System is cool to the touch, this mattress tends to sleep temperature neutral. Though, it is more breathable than your standard memory foam mattress thanks to the pocketed coils and additional technology. Though, if you’re particularly sensitive to temperatures, you might want to consider the TempurPedic Breeze options. Or turn your AC up high.
Is it good for couples?
Edge support
The ProAdapt hybrid mattress from Tempur-Pedic has edge support –– but not nearly as much as a traditional innerspring mattress. When you sit on the edge, you do sink in. This is something to consider if you sleep with a bed hogger and need access to the whole sleeping surface. This is something you’ll find with many memory foam mattresses.
Motion transfer
The Tempur-Pedic Tempur-ProAdapt hybrid mattress has excellent motion isolation, which can be a big deal if you sleep with a partner who tosses and turns or gets up at night. The memory foam that conforms to your body allows the bed to isolate motion.

If you’re a memory foam lover, you won’t be disappointed by the ProAdapt hybrid mattress. We love the supportive and comfortable memory foam layers and the responsive coils that make this hybrid bed a winner. If you’re in the market for a high-quality memory foam mattress, the ProAdapt hybrid is a good pick.
What we love:
- It’s a high-quality bed that will last.
- You get the benefits of memory foam with the support of pocketed coils.
- The Tempur-Pedic Tempur-ProAdapt Hybrid mattress has excellent motion isolation.
Considerations:
- Tempur-Pedic beds are pricey. Sleepers on a tight budget will want to look to other hybrid options out there.
- If you prefer the traditional innerspring feel, then you probably won’t like this mattress.
- Not ideal for side sleepers who want a particularly plush mattress.
Other TempurPedic Models
TempurCloud
It’s a bed-in-a-bag mattress that’s TempurPedic’s answer to the online mattress boom where mattresses are delivered compactly inside a box or bag. It’s more affordable than other TempurPedic models, but it also omits the cooling cover.
TempurAdapt
Available in both foam and hybrid models, the Tempur-Adapt is the entry-level mattress in their popular Adapt line. It comes with a cooling cover and free white-glove delivery. We think it’s best for all sleeping positions.
LuxeAdapt
The brand says this is the “most advanced” bed. It’s very similar to the ProAdapt. It doesn’t come with as many firmnesses and construction options, but it is the thickest Adapt mattress. However, the price tag is pretty huge. We’d recommend this bed to side sleepers or back and stomach sleepers who have disposable income.
ProBreeze
This TempurPedic mattress model takes their cooling tech up another notch and incorporates temperature-relieving agents into every layer of the mattress. If you’re a real hot sleeper with a high budget, this could be your favorite TempurPedic mattress. It’s around a medium firmness and comes in a foam or hybrid model.
LuxeBreeze
Meant to keep you even cooler than the ProBreeze, this bed is best for side or back/stomach sleepers who want serious cooling relief and don’t mind paying a serious price tag. Though, its all-foam design makes ProBreeze a better cooling option for heavier folks.
Overall, we think that the ProAdapt Hybrid mattress is a good bed. It’s a hybrid memory foam mattress, so you get the cloud-like feel of memory foam while getting the support of a coil system. You get the best of both worlds.
Yes, memory foam can definitely offer pressure relief, but you’ll need to make sure that you buy the right firmness for your body weight and sleep style to relieve your unique pressure points best.
Tempur-Pedic has several price points for its line of five beds. We think that the Cloud is probably overpriced for a simple foam mattress, and the Luxe may be overpriced because it doesn’t offer much more in the way of luxury than the other beds. However, we think the ProAdapt is of great quality and fairly priced for all that it offers.
They do, yes, at least according to their website. It’s really common for mattress brands to offer financing or partner with a financing company. They understand that a mattress is a large purchase and that not everyone can pay in full on day one.
It looks like Tempur-Pedic itself does not sell via these outlets, but you might be able to find authorized distributors or resellers that do. That said, it looks like products purchased through Amazon, eBay, or Craigslist would not be covered by Tempur-Pedic’s warranties, nor can they be returned.
Tempur-Pedic’s entire brand is centered around memory foam. As such, all of the beds have a dense/viscous feel. You slowly sink in, and the mattresses conform to the shape of your body.
Yes. Most of the beds from Tempur-Pedic should be comfortable to side sleepers. We would like to point out that if you get a “firm” model, it’s designed more for back and stomach sleepers than side sleepers.
Tempur-Pedic products are sold all over the place, including online at Tempur-Pedic’s website, US-Mattress, and elsewhere. There are also mattress stores in almost every city that carry some Tempur-Pedic products. For instance, JC Penney, Ashley Homestore and Macy’s all carry some Tempur-Pedic products. Tempur-Pedic also has its retail stores.

The Review Team
How We Test The Mattresses
The Slumber Yard has been around since the beginning of the bed-in-a-box craze. Our team has personally tested over 175 mattresses so far, and we keep more than 150 beds in our office so we can compare them (and take afternoon naps).
When testing mattresses, we evaluate the following factors:
- Construction: We cut mattresses open to see what’s inside and how it’s made.
- Feel: We check if it has a stuck-in-the-mud memory foam feel, or if it’s more of a neutral foam or a plush pillow top, etc.
- Firmness: We have our own firmness scale and evaluate how that may vary depending on your body and sleeper type.
- Pressure relief: We test what’s the sweet spot for different body and sleeper types.
- Support and how that changes by body/sleeper type
- Edge Support: This is important for couples who share a bed. Would you roll-out of the bed or can you sleep confidently close to the edges?
- Motion Isolation: We use the water glass test to see how the bed fares with motion transfer. This is another important factor for couples that don’t want to wake up one another when they move.
- Temperature Regulation: We use a temperature gun to evaluate if the bed warms up, stays neutral or actively cools while you are sleeping.
- Noise: This could be an issue in beds with coils or innerspring.
- Off-Gassing: Some beds could have a smell for a few weeks after unpacking, and we try to warn you about it.
- Company policies: We also take into account policies such as shipping, returns, trial period and warranty.
- Value: We look at a bed’s price in the context of what it offers in terms of features and quality of materials and construction.
