Outline For This Mattress Review
If you’re unfamiliar with Vaya, you might have heard of their parent company Amerisleep. You know, the brand who makes 5 different mattresses at different firmness levels and price points to accommodate as many sleepers as they can. Now, they’re offering an entry-level bed in a box mattress option for folks who want to spend less than $1,000 on a bed. This review will focus on their all-foam flagship Vaya Mattress, however, they also offer a hybrid mattress which provides more durability and support at a higher cost.
Our reviews tend to be quite comprehensive so we’ve included links below so you can quickly skip to the exact section you’re interested in.

With every one of our reviews, we like to produce a video to go along with it. We feel like video sometimes does a better job demonstrating the features of a mattress.

Overview Of Vaya Customer Policies
The Vaya mattress comes with industry standard policies. If this is your first time considering purchasing a bed online, below is a quick summary of what to expect.
Free Shipping – The Vaya mattress comes with free shipping. The bed will arrive compressed and rolled-up in a box. It typically takes most people around 10 minutes to unbox the mattress and set it up in their bedroom. Keep in mind, you should give the mattress at least 24 hours to fully inflate before sleeping on it though.
100 Night Trial Period – Once the mattress arrives, the company allows customers to test it in the comfort of their own home for 100 nights before officially deciding whether they want to keep it or not. This should be more than enough time to allow your body to adjust to a new sleeping surface.
Free Returns – During those first 100 nights, if you decide the Vaya mattress is not right for your particular situation, you can return it for a full refund. All you have to do is contact Vaya customer support and they’ll schedule a time for the bed to be removed from your home. You won’t have to concern yourself with trying re-package the mattress in its original box.
10 Year Warranty – The Vaya mattress comes backed by a standard 10 year warranty. This is the norm in the online mattress industry.
Vaya Mattress Price & Discounts
The Vaya mattress is considered a budget mattress. This is what the entire Vaya brand is built around. Below is a table that outlines MSRP by size.
|King / Cal King||$1,099|
It’s important to note the prices shown above are not what you’ll likely pay come checkout. Vaya regularly runs sales and discounts in the $200-$300 range putting the mattress in line with other inexpensive online beds like Nectar and Brooklyn Bowery. Make sure to locate the green box on your screen to check current pricing.
Simple Two-Layer Design
As you might expect given its price tag, the Vaya mattress has a fairly basic design. The bed is comprised of just two layers of foam. Here is a quick summary of each layer.
- Support Foam – serves as the foundation for the bed.
- Vaya Comfort Foam – as its title implies, this is the comfort layer for the mattress. It’s a proprietary foam that is supposed to behave like a more responsive memory foam.
The two layers discussed above combine to form a 12″ thick mattress, which for the record is thicker than most budget beds. Wrapping the two layers is a soft, removable cover. It’s not entirely clear whether the cover is machine washable, so we’d recommend playing it safe and spot cleaning the cover with a mild detergent if it somehow gets dirty.
Feel & Firmness Analysis
Although the company markets that its top layer is designed to contour to your body like memory foam, we actually found that the Vaya mattress has more of a neutral-foam feel overall. All this means is that top layer is responsive and doesn’t really hug or conform the shape of your body.
This may be a negative for some people, but for others it might be a positive. There is a good portion of the population that actually prefer beds that have a neutral-foam feel. It really just depends on your personal preference. At the end of the day, the feel of Vaya mattress is very similar to popular beds such as Casper or Leesa.
Moving on to our firmness rating, we think the Vaya mattress lands somewhere between medium-soft and medium on the scale. In other words, it’s slightly softer than the average mattress.
Please note that firmness is not an exact science. It varies person by person. It largely depends on your body type. For example, heavy people will likely think the Vaya mattress belongs closer to medium-soft, while lightweight people will likely think it rates out closer to a true medium on the firmness scale.
Ideal Sleeping Positions
Not all mattresses are created equal. Some beds are better suited for certain types of sleepers and that’s definitely the case with the Vaya mattress. Below we discuss each sleeper type in more detail.
Side Sleepers – Given the Vaya mattress lands on the soft end of the firmness scale, we think the bed is best suited for people who primarily sleep on their side. The top layer provides a comfortable and forgiving sleeping surface for the hips and shoulders of side sleepers.
Back Sleepers – Typically, primary back sleepers tend to favor firm beds over soft ones. As such, the Vaya mattress wouldn’t be our top pick for people who spend a lot of time sleeping on their back. With that said, lightweight back sleepers may find the bed accommodating since beds typically feel a bit firmer to these body types.
Stomach Sleepers – It’s largely the same story for stomach sleepers as it is for back sleepers. People who favor their stomachs while sleeping also tend to prefer firm mattresses. That’s not to say the Vaya mattress won’t work for stomach sleepers, all we’re saying is that we wouldn’t consider it ideal.
Combination Sleepers – Folks who regularly rotate between their side, back and stomach will find the bed comfortable and accommodating. The foams used in the mattress are fairly responsive making it effortless to switch between positions.
Appropriate Body Types
As with most all-foam bed-in-a-box mattresses, the original Vaya bed is best suited for small and average sized individuals. Heavy people are usually better off selecting a hybrid mattress that uses coils. Larger individuals exert more pressure on beds compared to smaller sized individuals, and thus, require beds with more supportive foundations (i.e. coils rather than dense foam). If you weigh over ~250 pounds, we’d recommend checking out the brand’s Vaya Hybrid Mattress. It’s 12″ thick, but made with three layer including a pocketed coil layer meant for extra support.

Besides feel, firmness and the other topics we’ve covered to this point, there are two more considerations that are important, especially if you share your bed with a partner. We’re referring to motion isolation and edge support. Let’s cover each topic individually.
Motion Isolation – this phrase refers to how proficient mattresses are at stopping or deadening the movement that originates from your partner. In simple terms, are you jolted awake every time your partner moves or can you sleep through the night peacefully despite your partner tossing and turning? For the Vaya mattress, the answer is the latter. The mattress does a pretty good job of isolating motion. We don’t anticipate couples experiencing any major issues as a result of motion transfer.
Edge Support – this term refers to the perimeter strength of the mattress. As you approach the edge, does it feel as if you might fall off or do you feel properly supported? If you share your bed with a significant other, you want a mattress with edges that hold up well against pressure. If not, the usable surface area of the bed is limited, which means you’ll have to get used to cuddling in the middle. The edge support on the Vaya mattress isn’t the best we’ve ever seen, but it’s also not the worst. It’s right there in the same ballpark as most other foam beds. Ultimately, we don’t see it as being a problem for couples. If you really need the extra edge support, we recommend going with the more durable Vaya Hybrid.
Vaya Mattress Review Verdict
While there’s a lot to like about the Vaya mattress (it’s affordable price tag most notably), it’s not going to work for everybody. To be specific, we think primary back and stomach sleepers will likely want to opt for a firmer mattress. However, if you’re a side sleeper and you’re operating with a limited budget, the Vaya mattress is definitely a viable option that you should consider.
